Well, I have been in the liberal section for a bit... especially debating homosexuality in this thread:
http://christianforums.com/showthread.php?t=7098875
It finally broke down into me getting insulted and my faith being questioned by the liberals! :p

(Note their forum's motto!!!!)

I just thought you all might enjoy watching how the argument progressed and collapsed and why I believe liberalism is not an intellectual ideology but is rather an emotional ideology based around emotional attachments to positions and ideas that are rooted not in reason but emotion and preference.

You can see that in the posts today on December 22nd-23rd where my academic arguments are treated as equal to personal attacks
, which they responded to by insulting me with profanity and questioning the genuineness of my faith.

Please tell me what you think!

Edit note: Misspelled the title... oops. :p

I'll check that out today.

If you want to see the identical thing, head to THEOLOGY -
"philosophy & ethics" & watch that mess!

As far as I'm concerned, that entire forum needs to be plopped
into "unorthdox theology" for proper categorizing.
It's not close to the Christianity I know or has been taught for eons.

(and I think that has alot to do w/ them allowing the Unorthodox
into the Christian only Theology forum - even tho they removed
nonChristians from being able to post in there anymore.
I see little difference in what they changed.

Welcome, Postmodernism.

The foundational truth of liberalism is "the Bible is yours to bend as you please" and so "they do" and by their practice one concludes that they believe "the more eisegesis the better". Hence anyone claiming that "those who reject Christ are going to hell" or those who engage in "open rebellion against the Word of God are going to hell" are guilty of hate speach. So it is no wonder they view it as little more than "your personnal opinion". If they treat your master in this way -- they will treat you in that way as well.

By contrast the conservative foundational truth is "the Bible is the Trustworthy Word of God - NOT up for grabs - not yours to bend".

Given those two very different starting points - you have NO common ground OTHER than feelings and historic examples to draw on when debating them.

hence the reaction they give you when you go in there arguing AS IF the Bible is an objective rule of faith to which you can appeal for truth independant of bias and preference. They simply do not accept God's Word that way.

in Christ,

Bob

I knew that topic would become unacceptably (for me) contentious, so I avoided it. I think it would've done that in any CF forum that has more than one allowed PoV on the matter.

(Yeah, I know, I have an M by my name, and that is one of my assigned forums. But I'm on Leave of Absence.)

It's clear that scripture is rejected -
worse, people get themselves a Lexicon & do some word searches
& think they find the holy grail becuz 1 word can mean 3-6 things.

So of course they grab the one thing that doesn't go against
what they prefer.

I've often complained that most don't go to Greek or Hebrew language
classes to know more than a simple word study (thinking they became
theologians becuz they looked up 1 word) - while they ignore
custom, history, grammar & other biblical Laws/commands & other
scriptures that blatantly refute their positions elsewhere.

It's a simple matter of bias & rejection of what is clear.

this post says it all

When God shows up on my doorstep or in a burning bush to personally deliver His precepts, I'll believe them. In the meantime, I'm not going to treat pieces of copied manuscripts as if they are the Logos/Rhema/Sophia of God incarnate in book form

Sadly, He HAS shown up on their doorstep & delivered His precepts.
They willfully rejected them.

& this is the level of "Christianity" we're being inundated with
& these types of beliefs are everywhere now - not just CF.

Nadiine, CC isn't the place to gossip about their posts. If you want to discuss their posts, please do so in the actual thread, to their faces where they can respond. If they try to here, they'll be reported for it.

I'd be a millionaire each time a conservative called liberal christians names or denied their faith on this board!

Is it nice to do so? No! Is something coming right back at yer attitudes towards those not believing like you do? Yes!

(Note their forum's motto!!!!)

All ARE welcome, just not to preach to us or insult our believes! Please read our FSRs!!!!

Debating liberals is as big a waste of time as debating atheists. Both reject scripture so we have no common standard of belief.

Psalm 2:1-3 (King James Version)

1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

I didn't used to believe that until I debated them regularly-

After 9+ years I finally came to the same conclusion you have

In forum boards like this, the only reason I bother is becuz of
other readers who might not be as hard hearted (Staff Edit).
Or maybe other Christians can use some verses or info they
hopefully find useful w/ people they know.

I actually wondered the same thing... that type of thread
is typical in that forum - just like all the others, so I don't
know why it would need closing.

It's also no different than what I see in
Theology/philosophy & ethics forum --- same stuff.

In the pages I read I didn't see any flames......
I must of missed them :sorry:
Atlantians is flamed in at least 3 posts. He responded with immense grace, but the thread should be closed before it devolves any more than it has.

Am so tired of CF's dynamic when it comes to liberal vs. conservatives.

Having rejected the scripture, they preach a different Gospel!

Can we really imagine the God of all creation, the Lord of Heaven and Earth, being fussed by the status of everyone’s individual belief? Salvation is concerned with the transformation of life. All life. Barriers to the flourishing of all human beings are to be overcome, whatever stage people are at in the awareness of this life-giving dynamic. What matters is that we have all been freed to be all there is in us to be. Otherwise Christ has died in vain. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article5332119.ece
