That's very true but all the best conditioning and training sometimes doesn't prepare you for what happens in battle or tells you how you will react.

I was both in the Army and National Guard and when I first got in there was still a few men who fought in Vietnam in service and one of my favorite memories was sitting around listening to their stories. The biggest lesson I recieved was that when the bullets start flying is when you learn who you can count on.

A new recruit in boot camp can be the fastest learner, the best soldier, the toughest, meanest guy, the loudest shouter of kill, kill, kill!!! A real hard charger but then turn out to be the biggest coward on the battle field and the least person you can count on when the bullets start flying. I've heard that time and time again.

Oh well, when the bullets start flying, and you hear them, then you are alive!

Never been in the military, but common sense would dictate that if you are fighting an enemy who would enjoy cutting of your head,my advice is... on the battlefield,is to be like this!

My dear brother, where did you get my photo from, I was like that all the time facing my troops, more so, than the enemy. And I got results!^_^

My Lord and Savior is also a Great General!

Revelation 19

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, "Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great."
Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

says the drill sgt. to the soldiers preparing to go to Iraq. The soldiers scream back: "Blood. Blood. Blood makes the green grass grow."

"What's the spirit of the bayonet?" the drill sergeant asks. The troops chant at the top of their lungs: "Kill. Kill. Kill without mercy."

I recently listened to several members of the organization, Iraq Veterans Against the War, testify at a subcommittee hearing before Congress. They told of horrible things which were done to civilian Iraqis, how they were murdered (or killed) on a broad scale or under vague and ever-changing and expanding orders to engage. They told of harrowing tales and one admitted to participating in war crimes.

But what really struck me is what they said about basic training, and how it conditioned them to be killing machines using chants such as the one above, along with exercises such as repeatedly stabbing a dummy with a bayonet.

Is this the way of Jesus, does this "conditioning" and do these chants glorify Him, the Prince of Peace?

Do they honor Jesus Christ who said, Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.... Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.... Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God, and who said, "But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" Matt. 5:6-9, 44
I think I prefer the following prayer:
“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light, and where there is sadness, joy.” St. Francis of Assisi

God bless you, Habeas. It takes courage to post this, even in a Christian forum. Christ said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight,” (John 18.36), but so many of His “servants” are ready to pick up arms and blow away anyone the politicos in Washington DC consider our designated national “enemy” of the moment.

Maybe someday we will let Christ’s example determine our principles and not the government.

Someone has said that war will exist until the day peacemakers enjoy the same honor as the warrior does.

Great post Alpine.

Apathy moves many to ignore those around us whose intentions are to remove anything/anyone Godly from the face of the earth.

Since Adam "fell" there has been and even now is a war between that which is of God and that which is not for control of this earth we live on.

That fact demands that blood be shed to retain righteousness in the earth.
The scriptures above recite the time when Jesus comes and lets all know that a change has occurred.

The change is recorded here.

Rv 11:15
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
KJV

After about 2,000 years, the time for God to take back his property arrives.

Those who hate God and will not repent even after the things sent to get their attention and move them to repentance.

Just like Pharaoh, hardened hearts refuse repentance and godless men band together to fight God for possession of the planet.

War is the only remedy with such that will remedy the evil.

There will be no peace on Earth until the unrepentant are eternal incarcerated where they can no longer engage in godless agendas.

This someone was a fool. We are promised war will occur until the end of this age and no amount of 'honoring' peacemakers will change that.

Thank you Faulty. You beat me to this. Honor in war comes from the sacrifice one friend makes for another. Everyone was eating tarmac to hide and my friend Jimmy was still doing his job. He didnt do it for honor but to get his aircrew off the ground to save them. He paid for that with his life.

Thats the crux of honor. One man doing what he knows to save his friends. Not to win wars or kill the enemy. just to take care of his buddies. Most men wouldn't know honor if it bit them in the pants.

And that has what to do with the promise of wars and the nature and purpose of the military?

We may no longer be a part of this world, but we still live here, work here, own property, pay taxes, and suffer the consequences of not only our actions but of the actions of those around us. Sometimes war is a part of that.

So what's a christian to do? Leave the unbelievers in the military on their own?

Was Vietnam a “just” war? Did we count the cost accurately enough before our politicos decided it was in “America’s best interest” to sacrifice 50,000 young men and maim the bodies and screw up the psyches of thousands more only to bail out years later after the politicos decided, too late, that it was in “America’s best interest” to bail out? Will we do that again?

I was drafted in 1964 and, had it not been for a deferment (which I did not request), I would most likely have been shipped to Vietnam. Before the deferment came (btw, at the time I was a newborn believer), I had to wrestle with my conscience. Could I, as a believer, intentionally draw a bead on another human being and blow him away because that person was designated by politicos in Washington to be my “enemy”. He was no threat to my home or family, even though the politicos in Washington were telling me he was.

I was not wanting to shirk my duty as a soldier, but I decided that, as a Christian, I would apply to the Medic Corps and brave the dangers of warfare if I had to in order to save lives instead of destroy them. In my mind (conscience) that is what Christ would have done.

Had they given me a gun instead and put me in a foxhole I probably would have shot to kill just to save my life but I know, deep down, it would have destroyed me had I ever had to kill someone.

The deferment spared me that decision.

Good thing we fought Hitler..

War is ugly, but we gotta do it sometimes.

You raised Vietnam,but ignored Hitler..

I am sure many Christians died fighting Hitler.
