  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So obama believes in the myth of global warming...

All those reports of polar bears drowning? That's just a filthy lie from the liberal propagandists and Satan-worshiping scientists with their fancy degrees and Nobel prizes and stuff. Who you gonna believe - your own eyes or what god tells you?

The other day god came to me in a dream and told me the earth is flat and evilution is a plot. I believe it. That settles it.

lol.

And have you noticed since the trend has been cooling this year the mantra is no longer 'gobal warming' but 'global climate change.'

Gotta cover all the bases though? Unstinkinbelievable!

Truth is adjustable, just like the campaign promises on the website.

How about you give it a go? You know, post some actual science, discuss the shortcomings you see in climate science that sort of stuff. It makes for a much more interesting discussion than just claiming that 99% percent of scientist are wrong and that you know better.

Where do you want to start?

I know, I could never debate with the obama people's army, they're way too intellectual :D.

Intellectual alarmists.

If global warming is supposedly such a crock, you're welcome to debunk it. So far, I haven't seen any evidence that global warming is a myth. That doesn't mean it isn't a myth, but if global warming is supposedly so wrong, you'd think those opposed to it would have an easy time debunking it.

Yeah, these crazy scientists also built a time machine and went back and changed the name of the IPGW (Intergovernmental Panel on Globwal Warming) to IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) back in 1988.

And have you noticed since the trend has been cooling this year the mantra is no longer 'gobal warming' but 'global climate change.'

Gotta cover all the bases though? Unstinkinbelievable!

A thousand years ago, Greenland was green. Warming depends on your time scale. We have been cooling since about 1000 CE.

A show on Discovery a while back showed how warming is not the norm; Earth's history is dominated by Ice Ages.

Short term, many parts of the world are experiencing colder weather than has been seen in 70 years.

Good thing you get your information on science filtered through a political think tank otherwise it may not agree with your ideology. So which part of the Rigby and Prinn paper would you like to discuss? Do you think increases in methane were due to drastic warming in the Siberian tundra as the authors suggests? If so we are in trouble because this would represent a stronger feedback mechanism than we previously thought.

PS for other folks who didn't read the paper (just as the authors of this article obviously didn't) it describes an alarming increase in global methane (which is a powerfull GHG) which may have been caused by the siginificant high latitude warming in 2006/2007.

Worrying thing is, the Earth is currently warmer than it was 1000 years ago, which also makes your second statement bogus. How about you look at some data before making absurd claims:

Agreed, thus the current rapid warming is of particular concern as does not follow previous non-anthropogenic patterns.

True, but as you correctly note they are experiencing weather not climate. The Earth as a whole is MUCH warmer than it was 70 years ago.

It's pretty sad that without the [/poe] indication some people would actually take that seriously.
I know I did until the end. :p

That being said, it is clear that you don't know much about science and the journals, research, and evidence that support climate change. As I said before, everything is a feedback system. Normally there isn't that much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, as we have seen the current levels are unprecedented. So what we have no is a goiter, only it's not an enlarged thyroid gland, it's carbon dioxide. And that excess carbon dioxide is making the planet generally warmer, it is causing droughts in some areas, making it wetter in other areas, we are seeing more climate extremes where one place will get really hot, while others experience bitter cold. We need to do something about it. But as winter approaches, I expect more from the right to single out cold days or instances of snow to argue against the planets changing climate.

No it doesn't Steve, the article suggests two mechanism for the rapid increase in atmospheric Methane, a significant increase in methane emissions from high latitude tundra as they warm or a decrease in hydroxil radical. Neither of which in anyway refute the theory of anthropogenic climate change.

When you go looking for information on climate change from a political think tank, you get information that has been spun or misrepresented to fit a political view point. I would highly suggest you try getting your information about science from scientific sources. I am guessing that the NCPA somehow managed to miss this release as it doesn't fit with its political ideology.

MIT study contradicts the idea that humans are to blame for global warming:

Al gore is still trying to get into the white house through the back door, lol.

Global Warming alarmists, rofl.
Why don't you show how Global Warming is a baseless theory through a scientific paper that has been peer reviewed and then show us all how wrong we are.

So they have a hypothesis that so far is nor borne out by evidence and has not been peer reviewed, so that makes two guys at MIT more knowledgeable than the worlds climatologists.

One thing does seem very clear, however; science is only beginning to get a handle on the big picture of global warming. Findings like these tell us it's too early to know for sure if man's impact is affecting things at "alarming rates." We may simply be going through another natural cycle of warmer and colder times -- one that's been observed through a scientific analysis of the Earth to be naturally occurring for hundreds of thousands of years, say the scientists.
