Well, this is the second week I've gone to the WELS church. It was really nice to be in a service that had a real live choir. Especially one as well done as the choir at Calvary in Redding. We'll have to go south to Anderson next week as the two congregations will be having a combined service down there. I'll have to call the secretary about the times and everything.

I visited a WELS church when I was up in NE. It was such a relief from going to Betty's LCMS church and listening to this 83 year old pastor trying to sound like a cheerleader for Ablaze. Something like "Join Ablaze by-cracky!!!".

I'm not too excited about the chanting but I guess I could get used to it in the WELS. Most of you know that I preferred to speak most of the liturgy. I get more out of the spoken word. It's like having all these little mini-sermons during the service.

Unusual for WELS to have chanting, isn't it? WELS tends to be low-church.



But chanting the liturgy, .... I wish that I could hear that again. Traveling as guest pastor, I never get to do that.

Oh well.... not that big of a deal.

I don't know what's standard for WELS but the two churches I have visited the last year. One was ELS and the other WELS and they both had chanting every service.

Edited: I just remebered that I went to seajoy's church and that was WELS and they didn't have any chanting.

Chanting, formal liturgies and hig church are a big deal to me, Rev. It will be so nice to be part of church and synod that emphasize tradition and orthodoxy again.

Oh Rad, the visual you gave me regarding the Pastor. If it is who I think it is, I wonder how comfortable he was doing that. Isn't he actually retired, but fills in for vacancies and Sunday supply?

We were in that District from '85 - '99 and saw it go from a fairly conservative/confessional one to rather liberal/contemporary. I personally know the DP there now and it does not surprise me actually.

Am feeling much better today so am going to give it another day or two of taking it easy and not going here, there and everywhere helping everyone out so I can get to feeling great.

My DH needs to take it easy today to get the swelling back down in his foot. He's been doing great with his PT- getting more motion all the time, but Saturday he spent a good part of the afternoon outside, sitting in a chair while his friend worked on our snowblower. Guess his foot didn't like that, cuz it swelled up more than usual. Sure was good for his mind, tho- something different than laying on the couch watching TV, which he is sick to death of!

I take him back to the Doc Thursday for an xray. We are hoping that Dr. will say he can start putting weight on the foot, but we'll see. I sure hope so- hubby is SO very anxious to get back to work and will be really disappointed if he can't start walking on 2 feet soon.

I totally agree. I LOVED it on Reformation Sunday when Pastor chanted the whole service. So did he.

Yep--that sounds like him and that also sounds like the way the church is going to. I went to a bible study and they talk about self improvement, gifts of the Spirit,contemporary worship and Beth Mann (Mahn?).

Yea---Beth Moore. She caters to the women that have had questionable childhoods and marriages. She tries to incorporate counseling techniques into OT Bible verses......or vice versa. I've been to about 5 of the studies and I can't make heads or tails out of it except seeing standard counseling and psychological applications. Somehow the women thrive on it and swear by it.

I tried it once and didn't like the Beth Moore bible study. You have a book to work in and have to watch a DVD. Give me a good study book, preferably Lutheran and the bible and I'm set.

This is most certainly true!

Have any of you ladies ever had to deal with a bullying man in a business setting? If so, did you react or did you take it? If you took it, were you able to have him made accountable for his actions later?

I had to deal with someone once when I was working, he said some sexual remarks, took it and stayed away from him as much as I could. Someone else reported him and I spoke up then.

Well, I'm the next person in line that he's attempted victimize and if I don't put my complaint in writing, the pattern will not be of record, leaving the next person to have to go out on that limb.
It wasn't sexual (that I would have put a stop to with my foot and then filed a police report ) but an attempt to intimidate me by threatening to interfere with the completion of a transaction, which in essence, would hurt both our clients. It's a matter of ethics and fiduciary duty and the other women he's done it to didn't follow through with a formal complaint. If they had, he would be out on his ear.
You can imagine that others are encouraging me to make the complaint formal. Of course, I'm thinking it's just a matter of time before he does this to a woman with a large and very protective husband.

I've had to deal with a bully...a female one. I kept a log as did a friend of mine (without my knowledge actually) When I left the library, I gave the log to the HR dept head as the reason for my leaving. That's when I learned of the second log from the friend.

For this "colleague" to threaten you in this way, is not only stupid, it's very likely quite illegal as well. Filing a formal complaint would not only protect you and the other women that he would also bully, but it would protect your client and his not to mention possibly helping future clients know just what type of a person he is. You can imagine, if he's done this to colleagues, why wouldn't he do it to female clients? Threaten them into buying more than they could afford or buying something they didn't really want but took because of threats?

I'd file it.
