Are you judging atheism based on a couple militant atheist/anti-theists that are members of the Dawkins cult (refering to the Dawkins message board reference). You realize that is not even .000000001 percent of the atheist population you're dealing with. On average I'd say only 5 percent of atheists are militant obnoxious religion bashers, 75% of that being emotional teenagers (which was the phase I went through when I was 12, which is of course gone)

Just because men like Dawkins and Harris write books doesn't crown them the kings of atheism. Its men like Sagan that truly inspire me and any non-theist I know. They (Sagan and others like him) are truly extraordinary. If I judged christians based on some of the fundie nuts I've met on message board I could be much more harder on the religious folks such as yourself. I though try my best to be as respectful and mature as I can be, and I take the good with the bad like with all religions. Regardless of the belief their are nuts, according to your beliefs I may be a miseld godless heathen but at least I show respect and professionally argue without using brash generalization and shooting off my mouth.

I'm judging Atheists on their collective conscience. Please see my thread under Ethics and Morality forum. Warning. It's usual Atheist filth. I can also pull up rampant and epidemic filth on the IIBD forum if you want (I was the Bible Thumper there until they promptly banned me for my wit and wisdom fair :( ).
First and only warning.

Lol, who gave you the right to judge anyone HR? Lol, HR thinks he is a Christian.

Yeah its kind of ironic. Isn't there a verse about not judging and a plank in the eye? Something like that.

HR -
What emotion held Christ on the cross when He could have called angels to release Him? What emotion prompted Him to say "Forgive them for they know not what they do"? Was it hate which brought Him to earth in the first place? Was it with derision that He reached out to those who were "unclean" or shunned? Did He heal out of love or out of pride? Did He forgive only those He liked, those who's sins were not too bad?

Who is your neighbor HR? How are you to deal with them?

There is a time for discipline, a time for anger, a time to speak out - but in all things you should season your words and actions with love. Without love you are no more than another noisy gong clanging in the crowded ways of life. Your words begin to mean nothing because no one wants to listen to you.

"Preach the Gospel at all times, using words when neccessary " (with apologies to St. Francis - I don't think I have the wording quite right.)

To understand the term you have to understand that atheism is merely a disbelief in god/s and nothing more, period. Sadly, a lot of theists are uninformed about this point. I assume you do not believe in Santa Claus but, do I assume you believe in nothing? No, it means you do not believe in Santa Claus, period. It seems this forum is still full of theist propagandists that try to install ignorance about the world around them.
I would like to make this obvious; atheism is merely a disbelief in god/s and when you try to add to that classification (evolution, pro-life, science, etc) then you are being fraudulent.

Look. CelticFlower. You have yet to ask the question. When are you going to ask it?
You know, the question about why Yeshua openly and publicly condemned the Pharisees.
Do you know why he did? Saying, "Yeah, but HR, you're no Yeshua" isn't a question; it's a statement. First ask yourself that question, seek the answer, praying that the Holy Spirit of G-d will grant you the wisdom for its answer, then make the 'HR, you're no Yeshua' comment. Can you do that?

If you do, you'll come to the same answer both me and the Spirit of G-d came to. And that answer is is that you have no enemies, provided you have Yeshua in your heart; you will have neighbors, friends and Creator G-d. Insolong as you keep cursing your neighbor as he cuts you off on the freeway or commits some other transgression against you, you'll always have an enemy somewhere. True peace comes from the dissolution of enemies in the framework Yeshua laid out as quoted in Luke 6:27--with it comes the eradication of enemies.

So where does that leave me and my fierce words with the Atheists? It leaves me in the same place Yeshua was when he had to contend with the diabolical and scheming Pharisees, that's where. I will first test the spirits, as instructed in the Bible. This means I will prod Atheists here. If they come out (relatively) clean and perhaps a little offended, I'll relax my posture and have worldly discourse with them. But if they show that dark side (Cognitive showed it yesterday), then the spiritual test failed, validating the ulterior motive they have here.
I don't like ulterior motives, and Atheists are rife with them.

Atheists: If you pass the spiritual test as outlined in our Bible (can't do it if your heart condition is corrupted and sour), you gained a good debater and person to talk with. If you fail, the eagle is still soaring ahead, eager as ever to come down and get a bite to eat. It is just that simple.

Ding! Wrong again. The Atheist religion is that religion which has faith in the non-existence of a theistic G-d. Where there's faith there's religion.
Must I correct your beliefs all the time? C'mon, guys!

Well could you first of all link me to the Ethics and Morality forum. Second of all, I would have to see your posts and actions on atheistic/non-religious message boards. I mean if you make a balant attack posts or ignorant remarks without approaching it from a mild, philosophical you are bound to get bashed. It seems like your posting method is that which provokes people and consists of unwarranted agression. I'm sorry if you had experience with atheists, but you have to consider that there are christians that act the same way or even act worse when skeptics do the same exact thing.

Militant atheism stems mainly from militant theism and what they see as the dangers of organized religion. Most do what they do because they feel that getting rid of religion solves the problem. In reality the core problems and factors are still not addressed by their approach. Atheist tend to feel marginalized and tend to frown upon how most people blindly follow religion without asking some of life's fundalmental questions. Let's face it most religious people are frankly secular feel good spiritualists, that confide in whatever make themselves happy. Atheists see this as negative and feel that theism can get in the way of human potential and prevent man from taking the initative to take the improvment of his/her life into his/her own hands.

So it's a two way street, and I'd say the reason why people are agressive towards religion is because religion is sometimes agressive towards them. It is hard when a good ammount of society misunderstands you, specifically the US, and I can understand why some would sometimes be angry. It is however a bad sterotype that atheists tend to be militant or troll constantly on beliefs. Only a small group does that aka Dawkins and co. I respect Dawkins as a scientist and a biologist but have to say his arguments/assertions are cookie cutter arguments that have been used for 200+ years all he's doing is repackaging them. Sagan on the other hand was much more familar with the philosophical arguments, and did much more as an skeptic/humanist etc. He wanted to better mankind as opposed to bring an end to religion.

Dude, back off of the Atheists already! It's getting really old :sigh:

Have you read the FSG's for NCR?

Here's number one:

1. Be Respectful of all Members

"Love thy neighbor" applies here, too. Do not launch personal attacks or use rude, hurtful, insulting, or belittling language against other members. Do not harass another member. If someone is flaming or harassing you, report the person instead of retaliating.

1.1 Be respectful of all Members' beliefs

Making unjust or uncharitable references to other faiths' beliefs and practices and even ridiculing them is strictly prohibited

1.2 Do not "Troll" the Board

Members are required to refrain from creating topics which serve no purpose other than to cause discord, or from intentionally posting controversial or contrary messages to bait members into an argument. This includes using sock accounts to troll the board.
Please read it!

If you want to read the rest...they are here
