You are doing a very beautiful job!!! That is ALOT of stitching!

:D Thankyou! It is, a LOT. It's tiny and insane and time consuming and I am loving working on it but it's hard work at times. 32 stitches to the inch, what am I, mad?

Hey, question while I've got you. Someone told me that you're supposed to leave the faces in icons until last, but if I do that, the tension on this is going to be really...interesting, and it won't look right or be smooth across the piece. Firstly, are they right or are they thinking they know stuff and don't, and secondly - if they are right, does trying to make the finished piece actually 'right' win out over that?

The faces are usually the last part written in an icon, but every iconographer is different. Sometimes I write the faces and other skin parts first, mostly because the way I paint skin can be quite messy. I definitely leave the eyes and the inscription on the icon for last, but that is with painting. I would think you have a good enough reason to stitch the skin parts in the order you need to and not worry about that rule.

If I were you I would worry more about making the finished piece right and not worry about that rule.

Thankyou...that was what I was thinking, but I thought I'd ask. The...box things with the initials for Christ and the Theotokos have to go in as I stitch for the same reasons I posted above, but St Nicholas's name will be last since its at the bottom and I can do that.

I am thinking though that once I start the face and whatever I'll not take photos (I usually take photos every few days as a record to make myself realise I am actually making progress) until it's done out of respect...half stitched faces look really strange and I don't want that on record.

Amusingly, I took it with me to show my priest a few months ago (with a lot less done) and another Niko wants me to do one for him and is willing to pay whatever I ask...tempting, though that depends on whether by the time I'm finished this one I never want to see the chart again (which is possible, it's happened with stitched pieces before!)

My sister is quite good at counted cross stitch and 4 years ago I offered to pay her for a Holy Mandylion on a large bread towel to use for my Pascha basket. It is 4 years later and all I have gotten is excuses as to why she never did it for me. I even gave her a pattern for it. :(

Aw :( It does take a while...the Greeks don't have a tradition of Pascha baskets (or not the ones I know) which is a shame because I'd love to do a proper cover, the ones I've seen are gorgeous. The work I've got done is about...three months solid stitching, I think, for several hours a day, and I'm not even 10% done yet...yikes!

I understand it takes a while, but she never even started on it.

Oh...and for those who wanted to know about "Krumpytail"....it's a name that my hubby made up and named a character of his in a video game that he and some friends were designing (he studied computer graphics and animation in school). He got it from the Tenacious D song "Tribute" where the lyrics say "whip-crack went his Whoopy tail".....but it sounds like he says Krumpytail instead. :)

What happened was I was wiped out after the Sacred Arts Festival so I sat down on the couch to watch football and fell asleep!

It is good to see both UC and Photini!

Photini, I still need to get an icon of Photini written. I am planning on putting it near the sink in my fiancees new kitchen she is doing.
