  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have some OLD metal ones I bought at garage sales :) And some plastic ones, but I like the metal ones. My wooden ones are for circular knitting and they're tiny! I swear my husband will one day think they're toothpics ;)

Do you know you can make your own wooden knitting needles using wooden dowels and sandpaper? So cool. Sorry to be off-topic.

If I saw someone knitting in church, I'd probably think that she wasn't paying attention and didn't care about the sermon. I know that women can multi-task much better than men can...but it's still a public impression one gets.

nah, she's just running 'cause she's scared of the vacuum! Poor baby. *G*

I don't think I'd say anything...just 'cause I'm not the kind of person who can confront someone like that. *G*

Kae

Same here...I don't do confrontations.

Maybe online though ;)

For some reason I see you leaning over and telling her that if she doesn't knock it off, that you'll personally see to it that she experiences a non-supernatural manifestation of the Stigmata... no wait, that's what I would do. Never mind. ^_^ :p :D

She would probably look at you funny, then shake her head and say something about how kids these days are all high on something.

My husband is a kinesthetic learner and he does know how to knit - but he doesn't have the guts to do something like that in a sermon. Instead he shakes one leg, then the other leg, then his arm, then his leg again, all with his eyes closed - and he'll be able to repeat exactly what was said at the end. Sometimes I think I would rather he knit - the leg shaking gets on my nerves.

Haha! That is me! Totally! I can't sit still ever and I constantly bounce my legs unintentionally. I'm just glad my wife doesn't smack me on the back of my head like my dad did in church. She gives a small pinch instead.

Years ago as an exchange student in Austria I found it interesting that the girls knitted during class. It didn't seem to bother anyone, so I don't think a pastor should take it as an intentional sign of disrespect or a signal that the knitter is not listening.

That said, I agree that it is no appropriate at worship. In the old days, it would not even have been considered a good thing to do on a Sunday, but times have changed. I do my hobbies and even real work on Sundays, though I often wonder if I should stop it.

I got a story, a couple of years ago, I had my granddaughter in church with me, she was around 5, she was sitting next to me coloring and drawing, my name came out in the sermon about helping, my granddaughter turned and asked if I really did that. Who said little kids don't listen in church?

That reminds me of when I took my grandson to church with me while in St. Louis. He was 2! He was kneeling on the floor facing the pew and doodling in his bulletin during the sermon when he jumped up, spun around to see the pastor in the pulpit, turned back to me with his wide eyes and exclaimed "He's talkin' 'bout Jesus!!" And then went back to his doodling.

Pinch, huh. Great idea. Thanks!

His family gave me the excuse that it was because he was born with the cord wrapped around his neck and not breathing - that he has a slight form of Muscular Dystrophy or something. Now, while I'm sure that explains a lot of things about him, ^_^ I'm not buying it causing the leg shakes because there are times when he doesn't do it.

BTW, that is why we sat behind the group at Trinity - and both legs were going strong.

Last time I checked all babies are born not breathing.

And the cord around the neck is extremely common, it doesn't choke the child. Most of the time the doctor just slips it over the head parents don't even notice. If the cord is short it can cause some problems but they have to do with the cord, not the neck.
