Last time I checked all babies are born not breathing.

And the cord around the neck is extremely common, it doesn't choke the child. Most of the time the doctor just slips it over the head parents don't even notice. If the cord is short it can cause some problems but they have to do with the cord, not the neck.

Exactly! I think he knows I know better, but there would be no convincing his family. They are a little strange on the health stuff.

Aren't we all.

Anyway, I do know for absolute fact my Mom could crochete during a sermon and catch every word. Likely be much better than someone supposedly concentrating on it and yet drifting off to galaxies far far away.

Actually, I have to amend that. She could crochete, watch one channel on the tv, and program another during a sermon and catch every word.

I'm not that good, when the Viking drops the football my ears kind of shut off of something, must be that screaming sound.

That reminds me of when I took my grandson to church with me while in St. Louis. He was 2! He was kneeling on the floor facing the pew and doodling in his bulletin during the sermon when he jumped up, spun around to see the pastor in the pulpit, turned back to me with his wide eyes and exclaimed "He's talkin' 'bout Jesus!!" And then went back to his doodling.

Sounds like you've got a future Spirit-Filled Pentacostal/Charismatic on your hands there. :p ^_^

If the cord is wrapped tight it most certainly cause problems. It can restrict blood flow to the brain.

I knew a guy once who pretty much every week would clip his nails during the sermon. It drove me NUTS! He was and still is a dear friend, but, boy oh boy, that was NOT how I was brought up!

DH and I visited an LCMS church again today. One of DH's comments was that he was observing the two children in the pews a couple of rows in front of us. He was impressed by the fact that the mother was diligent to make her children pay attention, follow along with the service, stand and sit at the appropriate times, etc. To him, her actions witnessed to the importance of the Word and worship at this particular church.

I'm not that attentive, I'm afraid. My 7yo daughter has her "Church bag" with crayons and pencils and Cheerios, and her illustrated small catechism. Most of the time she uses the children's bulletin insert: coloring the picture and doing the puzzles. But we do have her stand and join in the prayers and the Creed, and invite her to look on with us in the hymnal when we sing.

Attending church with small children is distracting, not the best way to get much out of the service, but they do eventually grow. My church has a rack of busy bags for the little ones--story books and crayons and coloring pages about Jesus or other Bible stories and children's bulletins. A couple weeks ago, my son came to me after Sunday School all excited and asked if I knew that we're going to Heaven some day. He looks at the hymnals and sometimes pretends to follow along. In a few years, he'll be able to read well enough to sing along. Meanwhile, we sit in the back "reserved for families with young children" pews.

Makes the hairs stand on the back o' me neck.
I thought that was really cool too!:)

My daughter, being a teacher, gets to hear wonderful things like that all day long.
Here is one of the best:
One of her students and his family, went to a resturant that happened to have a large Buddah for people to touch "for luck" I guess. Well, little Tommy found out from grandma what they where doing. At that moment, he felt it was his duty to tell these people the error of their ways.

So he stood by the Buddah, hands on hips, and shaking his head and saying. "You are worshipping a god with a little "g". "This is not the True God' - to anyone who tried to touch it. :) The parents were proud as punch little Tommy would stand there confess his faith to a bunch of folks he didn't know.

The faith of a child! He was only 6yrs old. God and the Angels had to be smiling big that day.
