  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The fiancee and I went to see Billy Joel when he was in Pittsburgh in April. Even though he is 59 he still puts on a great show! As for Floyd, I am wishing Roger Waters would tour again, as that concert was simply awesome!

Congratulations on your engagement! I hope you two will be very happy.

I think Goodnight my Angel is my favorite song of BJ's. I discovered it when I downloaded the Essential album as I'd missed it when it first came out. I like his original classical pieces on there which were new to me as well.

Thank you. I am very happy with her. She is such a sweetheart. Even Jenn the Finn agrees she is good for me. Jennie met her when she visited the two of us (as well as Nutroll) a few months ago.

As for my all time favorite Billy Joel song, that is tough. I would have to give you a top 10 list.

Oh, and Shine on You Crazy Diamond gets the most play from my Pink Floyd Pulse compilation. My son likes a wider range of Floyd so they're getting their due attention from our house. I've only been to one live "band" concert and that was Amy Grant's Straight Ahead. I was dissapointed in how predominant the bass was so I have since preferred album music and more classical concerts and musicals - like Mama Mia - that was so awesome that I quickly purchased Abba Gold.

Shine on You Crazy Diamond is great! I also love Time, or all of The Dark Side of the Moon, for that matter. But my all time favorite Pink Floyd song is Comfortably Numb.

Yes, I remember your saying that was helpful during a completely different point in your life!

Good morning to orthodox metalheads, to those who are excited about Eurovison song contest, to those it leaves cold and to other non-music lovers friends.

Can you believe the guy performing for France sings in English ?

This is outrage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!^_^

Yeah, the guitar solo on Comfortably Numb (the version on The Delicate Sound of Thunder) helped pull me through the post divorce weeks and months pretty well.

As I said before, it would be a larger outrage to the French if the Frenchman were singing in German! :p

Well, to your surprise, I don't think so. Singing in german would have been an interesting challenge (because it's hard to make it sound musical) and an original approach.
While singing in english... not that I don't like it (most of my records are english-speaking music), but I mean, so many artists do it already, even non-native speakers, for commercial reasons.

I'm not a Rammstein fan though :sorry:

Beethovens 9th is in German and it is the epitome of all music! :D But, yes German is a bit ackward of a language to sing in.

1) Piano Man
2) My Life
3) Leningrad
4) Downeaster Alexa.

As for Pink Floyd - the whole album of "Another brick in the wall".

I generally prefer verses in greek. So not much you would know of :). Perhaps when Philothei or Vasilis are here we'll pick the discussion again. I don't follow the international / anglo-saxon scene too much. It's not a conscience decision or anything, but somehow when I relax my mind forgets its english :).

Hello Mary,

I had a great time in Texas. I spent 10 days in Dallas and about 10 days visiting the Panhandle (Palo Duro, Caprock canyons, Amarillo) with my friends.
My friends in Dallas live quite close to the Cathedral, so I went there twice, and loved it. People were very nice and I got introduced to bishop Dimitri who was very nice. He told me about when he visited Paris and St Sergius back in the 50's.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here. And Abp. DMITRI does have wonderful stories, from such a full life. :)

Wow, things have changed since I was last here. And Emmanuel was just here in Texas. I'm glad you had a good time visiting the lovely sites and the Cathedral.

We watched Cyrano De Bergerac avec Gerard Depardieu last night and I kept wondering how to say "Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me" in French.

And hello Mary. I wish people hadn't cut in at the Pre-Lenten Retreat so that I could have chatted more with you. I hope you are well.

*wondering what sort of picture is going to show up when I post. I hope it wont be the Phantom of the Opera singalong*

Hello!!!! Welcome back!

I'm sorry we didn't get to talk, also. I hope that all is well with your family, and David and his family, and all the parish at St. Barbara's. Maybe we will see each other during the Diocesan Assembly next month.

Mary

Emmanuel (pleased to meet you!)

Do you have contact with St Serge Institute? I used to know 2-3 students from there. I put one of them up at my place when they visited our parish (that was a few years back, I was based in England at the time). He was a russian, Dmitri (very common name, I know). Very quiet and low-profile guy.

In my old days I used to listen to rock and all American bands... now I do prefer Greek balads and soft rock. Some Greek popular songs seem more appealing than loud heavy metal (that I was never into it anyhow) black sabbath would be the far far off I would go into....

Do you know e-radio. gr/. (Sharks, I can't post links yet )

You can get all kinds of greek radio stations broadcasting online from that. I'm a regular :). Usually I live under Greek Eclectics. Diesi, Melodia, or Tripa. Diesi plays around 2/3 greek, 1/3 anglo-saxon, so it's a good mix.
