  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To my northern friends Jenn the Finn and Krekkalainen,

I go to Saint Sergius from time to time, especially for exams (I'm a distance student there), but I don't know many of the students. I don't remember ever meeting a finnish guy there, and I know a russian guy called Dimitri who now studies in Cambridge, England, but I guess there are thousands of russian Dmitris.

OK, to recap:

Q ads: Great, love them! ;)

French singing in English: MUAHAHA.
French singing in German: MUAHAHA^2.

Greeks singing in English: MUAHAHAHA^3.

German sounds awesome in singing: Case in point: Mozart's operas. The aria of the queen of the night is simply AWESOME, language suits it well...

Pink Floyd: Rules.

Andrea: Welcome Back!

Finns: I've met Mika at Essex too, long time ago, when he was still a layman! It's a small world after all! When did you go Krekka?

Choirfiend: Congratulations!:)

Paschal Canon: It's in plagal first. My favourite tone if I may say so!

Byzantine: Here's a link with some of my favorites, Mt. Athos choirs inluded:
http://rapidshare.com/files/89380162/byzantine.rar

The Greek music I really love, is Byzantine, which is the highest form of music. Ever. From secular music, can't say I like greek music, except for Dionysis Savvopoulos. 90% of the secular stuff I listen to is of foreign origin really...

Bravo Vassilie....90% English and 10% Byz... lol... i am the opposite ..... Most of the time greek and only english in the car ....sometimes.

Choirfiend congrats for your upcoming wedding :)

Oh, no, I said 90% of the *secular* stuff I listen to. I listen to about 70% byzantine and 30% secular, but that's in a week. I rarely listen to byzantine AND secular in the same day. Byzantine needs its own time. It's prayer, it doesn't mix well with the secular stuff...

As for Pink Floyd, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and The Wall for me, for top 3 albums...

Pittsburgh Post Gazette said:
Octopus ban?

According to WPXI in Pittsburgh, Red Wings fans will have to resort to covert means to purchase octopi during Games 3 and 4:

May 22, WPXI: A local fish market will refuse to sell octopi to any Detroit fans during the Stanley Cup Finals.
Wholey's, of the Strip District, said they received calls from Detroit fans who are attempting to purchase the slimy cephalopods for the upcoming playoff series against the Penguins. Dan Wholey, owner of the fish market, said he is a Pens' fan and will not sell to any Red Wings' supporters.

Red Wings' fans toss octopi onto the ice after their beloved team wins important games.

The tradition dates back to the 1952 Stanley Cup playoffs when it took just eight wins to clinch the Stanley Cup. Two Detroit brothers, who owned a fish market, threw the eight-legged sea creature onto the ice on the Red Wings' way to a Stanley Cup victory. The eight tentacles on an octopus symbolize the eight necessary wins. The tradition has been a Detroit favorite ever since.

Good morning to those who are sarcastic about the French singing foreign languages, to those about to get married, to those who like both byzantine and secular music, to those who make Billy Joel songs lists, to those who throw octopi onto the ice and waste good food and to other friends.

Wonder if they could get octopi smelling dogs at the entrances LOL...
I still think it was funny cuz those guys must have smelled something insane...

What must have been funnier was hearing the announcer say "Octopi shall not occupy the ice."
