  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wright's call for condemnation is, for a significant part, fully justified. America, as a country, has become the petulant brat of the international scene. There is little in its recent actions to be proud of. The Catholic church calls for the condemnation of the habits of an entire community (homosexuals) just as Wright calls for the condemnation of the policies of a different community (the United States).
I see. You consider condemning a behavior the same as condeming an entire nation. By the way, in calling fo rthe entire nation to be damned, do you suppose he was including people like himself and Obama?

I see condemning a community's behavior as the same as condemning a nation's behavior (since a nation is a community).

No. He was referring to the attitudes and policies that have created the divisions and tensions that we still feel today in our country. I'm sure you're more than capable of seeing that yourself. You shouldn't need me to point it out for you.

He didn't call for condemnation of a nation's behavior. He called for condemnation of the nation itself
No. He was referring to the attitudes and policies that have created the divisions and tensions that we still feel today in our country. I'm sure you're more than capable of seeing that yourself. You shouldn't need me to point it out for you.
But he didn't say that that. He called for condemnation of the nation because of the attitudes and policies, not for condemnation of the attitudes and policies. That was quite clear.

its pretty sad that those who don't support Obama must spend all of their time attacking him, since there isn't anything positive to say about Hillary Clinton or John McCain- so they have to stretch themselves to find some way to attack Obama

Just part of the time. :) There're so many negative things about obama that are being glossed over by his disciples that it really is not that time consuming.

i suppose it might be easier for some to stretch and attack Obama than to deal with the obvious shortcomings of a candidate like John Sidney McCain

Dear God, keep this nation from race riots if Hillary manages to win the democratic nomination.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. My faith is in you Lord.

considering that Obama wins a majority of white voters as well as black voters when Limbaugh/McCain Republicans aren't fudging the results, this is a pretty disingenuous fear to be spouting off about.

Do you think it will be as wild if Hillary beats up on Obama as it was when a few cops beat up on Rodney King for resisting arrest??

So you think black people might riot if Hillary wins the nomination, eh? Do you think white people will riot if Obama wins the nomination? I imagine not, right? Can any reasonable conclusions be drawn from such thinking?

Carey, you keep saying i should listen to osteen's sermons. I did. I have. Where do you think my opinion was formed from? Iam not a bush supporter so i dont let op ed pieces decide things for me. He is money centered and I fulfilled your request of 'just one thing' from Christ that is contradictory. I even referenced Christ's own words because i knew osteen would be sided with over Christ. Funny how what Christ said didnt get responded to. The 70 million for renovations, you cant think of better uses for the money?

Wow. I couldnt even read through the rest of the thread. Wright is still called all sorts of names and accused of all sorts of things. I love how peeps defame his church then accuse his church of being paranoid when it responds by pointing out the absurdity of denouncing the entire church because some disagree with some things one pastor has said. Dishonesty, lack of integrity, willful blindness, and arrogance are things that divide.

Diehappy, i wasnt saying Wright is better than Osteen because he yells. He is better because he is Christ based on many issues. I like his speaking style but that shouldnt be surprising :) As pointed out earlier, his comment about AIDS isnt as absurd as some might initially think. There is a long history of black men and women being used as guinea pigs in medical research. He is not off base to say 9E was our foreign policy chickens coming home to roost.

So everyone who holds the same positions is a nutcase? Think most of us agree the aids charge is baseless but there is enough evidence for the rest that to simply throw out the nutcase ad hom shows quite a few problems about politics, or the discussion of in the very least. As for divisive language. That's just more empty rhetoric. An example of divisive language is 'You're either with us or against us.'

There is no real evidence for the rest of his claims.

No real evidence for the rest of his claims? Guess all those dead civilians in Japan were cropped/doctored photos? What happened? Did Wright go back to the future in a Delorian equipped with a flux capacitor, take pictures of Japanese in 1944, then use Matrix era bullett visual effects to create all the evidence of how many civilians we nuked? Yeah, that makes much more sense! What was i thinking!

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye,"
Where is the evidence that americans never batted an eye?

Even with the ludicrous focus on 'never batted an eye' it can be shown that was the case. Even one Legislator proudly proclaimed 'Fry the yellow /edited/ !!!' Not to mention the firebombings in Tokyo. Other Wright attackers may want to jump in before this gets any more embarrassing for your side of the fence.
