  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Obama mania is dying. I have to admit though. His supporters are the most loyal and dedicated people in regards to supporting and coming to his defense. America just doesn't see what you all see. We see an empty suit with questionable relationships with a radical church, rezko, and an objectionable voting record (gun control support, infanticide support, pork barrel support, and entitlement support).

I agree that Obama mania is dying.

"In America literary reputations come and go so swiftly," I complained, fatuously. [Santayana's] answer was swift. "It would be insufferable if they did not." ~Gore Vidal

Are they as fanatical as the Ron Paul! supporters?

(I saw a Ron Paul! car last week.)

Aside from Rev Wright, national security will be what ends Obama's career. From AP today:

Rep. King: Al-Qaida would celebrate Obama victory

Let us not forget Obama's associate, Raila Odinga, promised Muslims in Kenya Sharia law if they voted for him in last Kenyan election.

Some background on the policies the man who flew to Iowa to endorse Barack Hussein Obama is promoting in Kenya:

The roots of the violence

"Majimbo" sounds familiar, doesn't it?
Too bad that the American people's most pressing issue is not national security but the economy.

John McCain's remarks about the Pledge of Allegiance
In light of the recent appeals court ruling in California, with respect to the Pledge of Allegiance, the following recollection from Senator John McCain is very appropriate:

'The Pledge of Allegiance' - by Senator John McCain

"As you may know, I spent five and one half years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. In the early years of our imprisonment, the NVA kept us in solitary confinement or two or three to a cell. In 1971 the NVA moved us from these conditions of isolation into large rooms with as many as 30 to 40 men to a room.

This was, as you can imagine, a wonderful change and was a direct result of the efforts of millions of Americans on behalf of a few hundred POWs 10,000 miles from home.

One of the men who moved into my room was a young man named Mike Christian.

Mike came from a small town near Selma , Alabama He didn't wear a pair of shoes until he was 13 years old. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. He later earned a commission by going to Officer Training School Then he became a Naval Flight Officer and was shot down and captured in 1967. Mike had a keen and deep appreciation of the opportunities this country and our military provide for people who want to work and want to succeed.

As part of the change in treatment, the Vietnamese allowed some prisoners to receive packages from home. In some of these packages were handkerchiefs, scarves and other items of clothing.

Mike got himself a bamboo needle. Over a period of a couple of months, he created an American flag and sewed it on the inside of his shirt.

Every afternoon, before we had a bowl of soup, we would hang Mike's shirt on the wall of the cell and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

I know the Pledge of Allegiance may not seem the most important part of our day now, but I can assure you that in that stark cell it was indeed the most important and meaningful event.

One day the Vietnamese searched our cell, as they did periodically, and discovered Mike's shirt with the flag sewn inside, and removed it.

That evening they returned, opened the door of the cell, and for the benefit of all of us, beat Mike Christian severely for the next couple of hours. Then, they opened the door of the cell and threw him in. We cleaned him up as well as we could.

The cell in which we lived had a concrete slab in the middle on which we slept. Four naked light bulbs hung in each corner of the room.

As I said, we tried to clean up Mike as well as we could. After the excitement died down, I looked in the corner of the room, and sitting there beneath that dim light bulb with a piece of red cloth, another shirt and his bamboo needle, was my friend, Mike Christian. He was sitting there with his eyes almost shut from the beating he had received, making another American flag. He was not making the flag because it made Mike Christian feel better. He was making that flag because he knew how important it was to us to be able to Pledge our allegiance to our flag and country.

So the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you must never forget the sacrifice and courage that thousands of Americans have made to build our nation and promote freedom around the world. You must remember our duty, our honor, and our country."

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the UnitedStates of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nationunder God, indivisa ble, with liberty and justice for all."

He didn't "refuse" to do anything. He simply didn't do it. So what?

I thought these slimy attacks were over.

And what does that tell you?

I really wish someone could explain to me without partisan rhetoric what is this fascination with the flag and what it does or does not tell you about a person who either takes part or not in saluting, pledging or wearing one.

Dear Friend,

Thank you for inquiring about the false accusation that I have refused to sing the National Anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance. I knew when I decided to run for President that I would not be immune from the "anything goes" form of attack politics that has been so prominent in our elections in recent years. And this outrageous charge is just another example of the kind of mean spirited, "shock" politics I will move beyond as President.

I am honored to lead a life of public service, and it is inconceivable that I would ever refuse to say the Pledge or sing the National Anthem. In fact, as a U.S. senator, I am sometimes called upon to preside over the opening of the Senate in the morning, at which time I am proud to lead my colleagues in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, with my right hand over my heart. Anybody who doesn't believe in the Pledge shouldn't be running for President.

Every time I have been elected or reelected to the Illinois Senate and the United States Senate, I have proudly raised my right hand, placed my left hand on the Bible and sworn to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." And I will be proud to take the Presidential Oath of office on January 20, 2009.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please share this message with anyone you know who has been misled by this baseless and particularly hurtful political attack.

Sincerely,
Barack Obam

I really thought political debating hit rock bottom with global warming. My arrogance has been revealed once again. It is so hard to discuss obama when 90 percent of energy is spent on separating the mud from the spud.

Maybe Soros funds Rolling Stone so he can hand pick the cover pics? Maybe RS is capitalizing on current issues by putting them on the cover? Is it really an alien concept the media wants to make money? Or are we going to hear how the grand jedi media mind control liberal atheistic media has already chosen the next POTUS for us?

And also, Rolling Stone is an Editorial magazine. It is not required to be unbiased at all.

Yeah but the librul media conspiracies trump such facts. I wonder if it is from projection since many who lay out the conspiracy get their info primarily from op/ed and obviously agenda based sources? Just like a liar develops paranoia of others lying to him because he knows how much he lies.
