  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not trying to be controversial here but...

So I read that, and could barely see the screen through my rage.

that ever happen to anyone else?
why did that bring rage about in you? I'm just wondering why you have a beer thing in your character's hand but are constantly raging on gottabe for drinking bud light... it's a fair question..... I was just trying to play it down a little so I wouldn't have to come right out and say it like this.....

and I'm sorry if these questions perturb you, it's not my intent bro... just trying to dig for an answer here man.....

I play up the beer snobbery when talking to Gottabe.

In truth, I like them all with the exception of pumpkin ales, but there's so much more to beer than watered down American pislners. Bud/Miller/Coors aren't good examples of how incredible beer can be.

American Pislners are at one end of the lager spectrum, and there's an entire world of complex and magnificent creations that just get overlooked because media has the people convince that beer = pilsner

It's a hobby/passion of mine, and hopefully a part of my retirement.

As a homebrewer, it's kindof insulting because the macros use adjuncts like corn and rice to stretch out the profits, but that also dumbs down the flavor.

Us "real-beer" drinkers are always poking fun at the macros, and it's been a running joke between me and geeby for awhile now and probably will be until she takes me seriously. if it bothered her I would have stopped immediately.

basically, if your beer tastes heavy it's because your tounge is lazy.

ok, and so Gottabe doesn't think we hijacked her thread... I agree.... she should ditch the dodo who would rather put grass in his mouth than spend time with her...... (which I think she said she was going to do)....

Well, I think it would be ego, and it probably does come off that way to some people, but I myself don't even take it seriously.

There's people on here that I *do* joke around with like that (Gottabe and Bud Light) being an example, and people I don't.

If I hadn't already established some mutual respect with GB I wouldn't do it, and I don't put any effort into explaining it to the onlookers because I get it, and (I hope, but now I'm starting to wonder) she gets it too.

Oh, also not to be taken seriously, I make fun of people who drink merlot.

And I just bottled some merlot.

Tim - thanks for the hug and the vote of confidence. You are very sweet to me! (not sure why, lol, but I will take what I can get!) ;)

Spicy - I didn't take your comment offensively. You were totally right. I hang out with guys a lot. I know the lingo, it's totally alright.

Flnative - Thanks for sticking up for me and for all your words of wisdom.

And as far as this thread goes, I think it has been hijacked more than once lol. But my original intent was not for people to feel sorry for me cuz some dude would rather smoke weed. I was really just trying to dig deeper into this mind-altering substance issue. There are a lot more issues between me and this guy and I am going to do some real soul searching in the next couple of weeks and encourage him to do the same.

Thanks to everyone for your advice (the witty comments help too, made me chuckle reading some of the things people have said!)

...someone please tell me what's so great about smoking marijuana.
I have never smoked it. I have never *desired* to smoke it, and if I had, the fact that it smells like burning compost would be enough to discourage me.

Also, I have encountered online multiple people who have suffered chronically or recurrently from DP/DR (depersonalization/derealization) disorder after only one or a very few occasions of using marijuana.

OTOH, I believe it can have legitimate medical uses. It can be highly effective as a nausea-reducer and pain-reliever, even when other means fail.

I've tried it once, and I wasn't impressed. It didn't do anything worthwhile in my mind. Personally, from what I've seen of the people around me in the past, it looks like a lifestyle choice, to smoke weed.

Some people need a crutch, or something to try and define their lives, for whatever reason (or so I'm guessing).

I know the conversation has so far centered on the person side of MJ, but another point I'd like to raise, is how the profits from illegal substances often go towards funding organised crime, and terrorist groups.

One big example would be Afghanistan - The Taliban/Al Queda - Opium poppies - Heroin.

Now obviously, we're not taking about Heroin, but the principle remains. For me, that perspective is enough to never legalise or tolerate the use of such substances.

 Thanks you guys.
I guessed I jumped the gun a bit. I don't mean he's a jerk or a loser. He might have a good heart. My brother smoked weed a lot, and even tried at least one of the really hard drugs, cocaine, or something like that. But I know deep down he wants to do the right thing. A lot of guys don't care about doing the right thing. A lot do want to do the right thing, but for many of us it is a war, and there are battles that are won and lost. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't settle for a guy who doesn't care about doing the right thing, but don't give up forever on one who cares but has not yet found his strength.

And for the record, 3-4 times a week, is A LOT. I've had a few friends that liked pot a lot and none of them did it that often than I know of.

He is a good guy. I know he is. I know him. I have friends that smoke weed. Doesn't mean they are bad people. Bottom line is I have faith in him. And while I don't know if he will ever be the kind of man I need him to be in order to be in a relationship with him, I do want to help him through this difficult time in his life.

I think that's very noble, gottabe. Pray about putting a boundary in place that you would consider not dating him until/unless he gets himself straightened out. It would be sad if you got involved with him while waiting for him to change and he never did. Once you're in love with someone, it hurts so much more to have to remove yourself from a relationship.
