What's the deal with job situation here? I am in glendale and there is nothing open for general office work! Honeywell and APS is laying off, and I already can't get a job. Went on an interview at Burger King today - and couldn't get hired because my application was ALL office work!

Real estate bust hit the Phoenix area really hard and nobody is hiring anymore. My company has laid off probably most of its Phoenix area workforce in the past two years. Wish I had better news for you, we have many receptionists and general office workers where I am at but we're in real estate so definitely not hiring.

Back in the 70s!!!!! Yahoo!

Ugh, warmth!

Any of you ever been to Sunrise Park Ski Resort? It is near Whiteriver on the Apache Reservation. Do they actually get snow this time of year? Is it hot in Phoenix in February? My son lives near Window Rock, Arizona and they got snow all the way up till early last May.

what? now burger king requires experience? it is kind of messed up when the only jobs allowing for work with other commitments are jobs that take advantage of the employee, and even entry level jobs require experience. it also is that it is so hard to get hired around here even with an extensive resume.

Not to mention the bilingual requirement most companies in the area have.

Which is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous (the bilingual requirement). What other race was catered to when they immigrated? Did we start mandating people speak Gaelic, Italian, French, German, Russian, Chinese?

Just had a great temp assignment which required bi-lingual capability. I know enough to get my hair cut at Spanish speaking places or to get food from Food City, and never put on my resume' any thing else. I also wasn't informed of this requirement, so was let go.

"No hablo espanol, pero ese persona puede ayudarle a usted." (I don't speak Spanish but this person can help you.)

With all the traveling I have done, the bilingual = English and Spanish only here is absurd. My wife knows sign language, and there is a significant deaf community here, but still didn't qualify to an employer as being bilingual for a pay adjustment. She left the position.
