  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

RichardT has agreed to admin a discussion board I had made some months ago and simply didn't have time for. Some of us are interested in having somewhere to talk without being bothered with debate and criticisms. We are considering a debate forum sometime in the future but for now we want Creationists to take an interest.

Come check it out, you might have some fun.

Grace and peace,
Mark

Hmm... I think perhaps a rule was accidentally broken if this rule is still in effect:

"3.1 No Spamming

A. You will not post any messages anywhere on this site that are primarily for the promotion or advertising of any website, email address, business, MLM (Multi Level Marketing or pyramid schemes), activity, church, ministry, prophetic services or any other entities or services from which the member will receive any financial or pecuniary gain. This prohibition includes begging or soliciting donations or financial support (charitable or otherwise, for any reason) anywhere on the site including in e-mails, posts, and PMs.
B. You will not make multiple identical or nearly identical posts.
C. You will not post external links for the purpose of promoting traffic to that site. This includes any external URL contained in automatically generated sections of posts such as signatures, avatars, and custom user titles.
D. You will not make posts requesting site blessing points or reputation points."

I read the rules carefully before posting this. I don't see how it breaks them. I didn't post the link in order to receive financial support or for the purpose of promoting traffic. I specifically posted the link in the Creationist sub forum for Creationists. If I wanted to promote traffic I would have posted it all over CF.

did you intend for members here to login over there? thats 'intent to promote traffic', even if nobody does so.

The reason for that rule is to keep people from advertising .com sites. You can promote traffic to blogs and discussion boards. People come on here with .com in their nicks and the moderators will ban spammers in a heartbeat.

You can promote traffic to Talk Origins, Answers in Genesis, the Smithsonian Family Tree, no one has a problem with that. Spam is like those advertisements you get in your email box that you need security software to filter out.

I have a couple of internet forums. Can I start my own thread, listing the names and urls and advertise too?

It depends on what the sites do, if you are primarily selling stuff on those sites it's not allowed.

Mark this is Pastor David from Trinity. Hope you've been well and have gotten out of that place you were in.

Trinity is very quiet. Surprisingly, I have been given the whole thing, domain, vBulletin, purchased an upgrade, etc. I've spent some money getting it moved but figured it was worth it. Also have the internet church. Need some good partners to help it get moving, vBulletin knowledge, etc. I'm also interested in suggestions for improvement.

I was serious about the questions, not trying to make trouble for you. I agree that in the creationist forum (and others) there are entirely too many folks that don't seem to be in there for righteous reasons and seem to only want to badmouth or make trouble. Anyway, hope you are well Bro.

I'm stateside now, I went from the Guards to active Army and they have me in a school to reclass into another MOS (they are training me to do a new job). Everything is great, can't wait to get out of this school and get to my duty station.

RichardT had to help me with the discussion board I have but it's up and running. It's kind of hard to get steady traffic through a discussion board. I'll check out trinity again and let you know what I think.

Yea, the spam rule is a prohibition against unscrupulous advertisers. I was a moderator for a while and it's a constant thing the moderators deal with. Spammers have crashed some boards and just spoiled others. They won't give my little discussion board a second thought. Right now I'm working on getting a sister site built that will have a library of Commentaries, dictionaries and other Christian literature that are public domain texts. I'm hoping that with the library attached to the discussion it might generate some discussion.

We'll see, I'm planning a commercial site down the road and these little projects are a learning experience if nothing else.

Like I say, I'm doing great. Schools going along fine, I was home for the holidays and I have some nice people helping me with my website projects. Why don't you stop into the discussion forum sometime? It's nothing fancy but in time I think it has some potential.

Grace and peace,
Mark
