You know who has disappointed me the most? Hermoine. She used to be righteously rebellious, doing what she thought was right against the approval of others, speaking her mind...

Now, she's turning into a "heehee, I don't know. I'm a girl" girl.

Have you read the last book yet? She's incredibly awesome in the last book.

Edit: I know what you mean, though. I was upset when she became "pretty" and a key part of that was magically fixing her buck teeth. Way to stick up for us insecure people with bad teeth, Rowlings!

LAW 2. : EVERY time a real born again Christian creates a thread, or makes a post that deals with a very right wing topic, they are instantly labeled as a POE! This will occur within two or three posts.

Which just confirms the validity of Poe's Law ;)

Also, it did take 85 posts as stated earlier...

Well done. Of course, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the NT says to not associate with whoremongers, fornicators, thieves, etc because most likely those people will lead one astray. I'm certain that, should you have kids, there are some people that you do not want them associating with. Paul is saying that: don't associate with them otherewise you will be lead astray, but preach to them the Good News so that they will turn away from their sins. You have to look at the Bible as a whole, reading one verse and taking it completely out of context will get you nowhere.
Not all the verses I cited say whoremongers, thieves, and liars. Do you plan to actually look at all of them or are you going to prove me right by disregarding the entire list?

You might want to check what you are saying.

FACT: H.P. IS INTRODUCING THE OCCULT TO CHILDREN.

This is evil and wicked. Read the OP. Ok, I know you won't so here is a refresher.

=====================================================

The Harry Potter (from now on will be referenced as H.P.) series is vile. Period. End of remark.

The vileness comes from the fact that this author is deliberately introducing children to witchcraft, sorcery, necromancy... let's just boil it down to the Occult!!! This is beyond vile. We will have to make new words to show how disgusting and vile this is.

READ VERY CAREFULLY:

9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. --DEUT. 18

READ VERY CAREFULLY:

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem: 2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. 3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. --2 Chron. 33

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. --Galatians 5

Old and New Testaments condemn witchcraft! It is abominable in His sight.

The audacity of this author to introduce this sickening vile trash to children is beyond my comprehension. The sheer disdain for God's Word gushes forth from every page of this series. Truly sick and evil.

This h.p. series is a sign to our country that we are in serious spiritual trouble!!!

She asked where HP uses actual spells or real life witchcraft.

You responded with the same "NO NO IT'S DESTROYING US" nonsense.

Obviously, you have no argument so now you're just going to annoy us until we leave and then you can say "HA YOU JUST LEAVING BECAUSE YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT". That's very mature. Seriously. /sarcasm

Unlike Narnia, however, H.P. uses actual spells from witchcraft in the real world here. The author is indeed promoting witchcraft, no matter how you want to spin it.

No she doesn't because they don't use two word spells that are just wierd Latin spins. And until you provide a SOURCE you're just paranoid. (If that was sarcasm, make it obvious, geez).

Let's entertain for a moment that HP teaches kids to engage in witchcraft.

Little Billy then asks mommy to buy him a wand - a real wand. These wand stores don't exist, so Billy just uses a stick.
He says, "Avada Kedavra". Nothing happens.

And?
You think the kid, seeing that NOTHING HAPPENS after using these made up spells, is now on a trip to Satanville?

I used to wiggle my nose and pretend I was a warlock. I used to put my arms together and blink and pretend I was a genie.

However, even as a child, I understood it was pretend. I knew that no one could really do that.

And now, sadly, the adults think its real???
Are you under a Babblling Curse? Are you that gullible to think that gullible isn't in the dictionary?

I guess some people will believe anything. It's astonishing.

LOL I love it when people condemn stuff they don't even know about. There is fantasy magic, sorcery, witches and the like in many popular children's tales. "The Wizard of Oz", most Fairy Tales, Lord of the Rings, etc. If anyone would bother to read Harry Potter they would know that the spells used in the books/movies are not real spells used by people who practice real Witchcraft. The fact that people encourage children to read a book that goes into great detail of murder, war, rape, incest, inappropriate behavior with animals, sorcery, etc. (*ahem* the Bible), but get up in arms when children actually want to read a five hundred page work of *fiction* is mind boggling to me.

Wait. My glasses are broken. Oculous Repairo! Hmmm, it didn't work. Hold on, maybe I need to make my magic wand float over into my hand. Wingardium Levioso! Darn! That didn't work either.

Harry Potter is not vile.

This is why:

We don't believe he exists and they are stories.

There were some very prominent fantasy authors that were absolutely devout Christians that used their stories as metaphors for Christ glorifying them.

C. S. Lewis (writer of the Chronicles Of Narnia) was such a devout Christian that he even wrote books on apologetics, defending each article of our faith. How can you call out fantasy like that? It is exactly what it is: fantasy.

When we try to apply these things to fiction literature that does not engage in anything despicable at all but often has good lessons about never giving in and folowing your heart, we merely look bad as Christians.

Yea, right!

And all the inappropriate content that is called "Adult Stories" are not evil either, right? After all they are only stories, right? So I guess we can have our kids read XXX stories; after all, they are not real, correct?

both this and the OP are a bunch of meaningless judgmental garbage. you haven't shown HP teaches anything occult, i've read real occult works and HP is as far from occult as can be, the bible is more occult than HP is

as for this post, like someone else said, sex is real and HP is not, so your argument is purely absurd

you are just spouting nonsense, unless you can point out something in the HP that is occult, and not just whining that it has people called witches and wizards in it that mumble faux latin that causes stuff to happen.
in this case you should be attacking all fantasy literature, science fiction and a majority of other genres

Avada Kedavra!!!!

oops nothing happened.. because its not REAL

8 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. 10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. 12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. 13 And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. --EXODUS 7

6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt. 7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt. --EXODUS 8

16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. 19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. --EXODUS 8

=========================================

NOW NOTICE!!!

The magicians via the demons who were the source of their power, could work many of the same miracles as Moses was performing, via God. However, they could not create lice!!!

Only GOD can create Life!!! Awesome! :amen:

At any rate, you are sadly mistaken! The occult is real and it is nothing to play with!!!

AND WHATEVER YOU DO, YOU DO NOT INTRODUCE IT TO CHILDREN, WRAPPED UP IN A STORY.

So, are you saying that our children should avoid reading books containing descriptions of magical incantations, human sacrifice, possession, spirits, and dealing directly with demons?
If so, why?

So you think kids are going to get into paganism and the occult because of these books?

...Considering that these books have been around for almost 10 years now, have there been any surveys/ studies showing that there is an increasing number of kids joining the occult? I'm guessing no..

I'm a part of the generation that grew up with these books. Many of my peers, including myself read these books and enjoyed them completely. But none of them became interested in witchcraft or the occult. We know fact from fiction and Harry Potter is clearly fiction.

Shield, you are a moron. You are just babbling about something you don't know the first thing about. If HP is occult, then what spell(s) does it teach? Give me an example that works. Give me a reason why HP is occult and The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, or the Discworld series aren't. Just one sensible answer is all I ask. Can you provide?

There is a huge difference. Harry Potter is entertaining. Personally having read the books I do not see any Christian allegory. (If someone could attempt an explain it do me I would be most obliged.) Nor however do I see any attempt to pervert the minds of children. The books are a good fiction series with a good message of tolerance and love for children.
There are hints of allegory throughout the series. Voldemort is symbolic of Satan. He can't lay a hand on Harry because someone sacrificed their life out of love to protect him from Voldemort.

Without spoiling the final book -- one of the last chapters is titled "King's Cross", and it isn't just a reference to the location. Rowling hadn't been vocal about her Christian faith while she was writing the series because it would have spoiled the ending.

This thread is hilarious. It's funny to see some of these ideas of how magic works. :p
