• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anything based on a "majority-rules" perspective is inconsistent... this is the problem with democracy. Nothing is stable and nothing is assured; only what the people want, when they want it.

Which I assume is what most Christians are worried about with regards to the lack of the Nicene Creed on this site.
There is a difference between majority rules and mob rule. This leans a little bit to the mob side. Not good.

That makes sense Erwin. I know that your heart is in the right place.

I appreciate what you are saying and I do like your vision.

But how are we going to have Christian principles with the wiki system. I'm sincerely asking.

Are there or will there be some wiki guidelines in deciding and discussing the forming of the rules?

This wiki thingie really confuses me. LOL

Thanks.
You are not wrong there - I think we need to come up with a set of Christian principles that are non-negotiable - then people can develop a set of rules via the collaborative wiki process BASED on the principles.

Something like the 5 pillars of Wikipedia which their rules are based on - we can come up with 7 Christian principles.

But how do we come up with these 7 principles? :) I could just come up with them I suppose.

You're right, but methinks wikis in general are a mix of both majority- AND mob-rules. :)

Like most things in life...

What about the Bible Erwin. They are all there already. Use the ten commandments and work them to fit. They are universal and the basis of all early man made laws so start there. That would be my first choice. I am not a Bible expert . So who knows.

The 10 commandments is not a bad idea, but most of them deal with interpersonal issues and sin that is not directly practicable to forum posting if you know what I mean. Whatever I come up with will be criticised, hence why I still believe there needs to be input from the community.

CaDan gets called all the best names :( Nobody has ever even called me Shrimp of Satan.
What about Shrimp of Santa, though? He has flying reindeer and a jolly belly! That has to have some sort of caché.

Except, Erwin, you have to understand that, given recentness, people will be feeling like their input is utterly irrelevant.
