But to be actually constructive, the rules governing this forum allow for only one possible answer to the poll anyway.

The minimum standard of doctrinal belief in order for a person to be considered a Christian is accurately contained within the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. The doctrines contained within these creeds are the bare essentials upon which Christians must agree.

The preceding points are held to be true by this forum and its members. Debate which denies or calls into question the aforementioned points will not be tolerated.

Since the CF general rules specifically allows for those who do not adhere to the Nicene Creed to be considered Christian, the only possible answer that may be given in this forum (given that disagreement is NOT allowed) is that the title of the forums should not include the word "Christian".

Everyone is allowed to vote, so it's not a conservative/fundamentalist question. And, dude, please don't lump the two together. Reductio ad absurdum isn't a useful method of debate.

And I don't see why the question posed is malicious. If someone can explain what makes this a Christian Forum still, then fine. But on a Christian Forum, there really *wouldn't* be a debate about whether blasphemy was allowed or not, or whether God would feature in the democratically decided Wiki. Also things which make it deviate from Christianity. Some of the changes are good. But some of them do mean this place shouldn't be called a ChristianForums.

So why the meanness and rhetoric? Unless it's that y'all both have beef with Steve personally... But many of us feel this shouldn't be called ChristianForums, anymore, and by throwing words like fundamentalist and malicious around, you're using a really broad, really inaccurate brush.

I often see many christians, in particular conservatives, make the claim that democracy is a direct result of christianity. Yet here lately (and as I take it from your post) the conservatives of CF seem to feel that democracy is a terrible idea. I'm confused? How can democracy be a result of christianity when the very concept of democracy is antithetical to christianity like this?

This is an honest question, it just really doesn't make any sense to me to see christians railing against democracy as they have done here lately.

I'm not ignorant and I spent over 30 years as a christian, most of it as the conservative type.

And the thread has everything to do with conservative beliefs, else it would be in the general Wiki. By the rules of this forum, you are bound to agree that allowing non-nicene's to call themselves christian is against conservative christian viewpoints and you are not allowed to debate against conservative christian viewpoints in this forum, again according to it's rules.

Anyone who votes 'no' in this poll, has effectively provided evidence that they may not be considered members of this forum because they have violated the core rules of this forum

Political democracy is a wonderful thing, because it allows everyone to share their views, and everyone is entitled to their view.

But Christianity is simply the Truth, and isn't a democratic issue. There is One God. I know many feel that's an arrogant view, and on a secular board, you'd have every right to question whether that was really the best way of creating the rules, but given the label of this thing is ChristianForums, democracy is just a euphemism for relativism.

Assuming you're a protestant, how can you believe this when your entire portion of christianity resulted from people essentialy saying "We think the church is wrong and it won't let us have our say. Therefore we are leaving"? I mean, protestantism is a direct result of democratic and relativistic thinking compared to what was considered orthodox christianity for 1500 or so years previously.

If people were saying "Only Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy is considered Christian" I could understand that (and I couldn't discern between the two which is the original and which is really split), since one of those two is where it all started from. Everything else is just disagreement by people who went off to form their own branch of christianity because they weren't allowed a say (or vote) in what christianity really was.

Nooo, I wasn't for a second saying it's anything to do with ignorance. But why would an atheist *want* to? Particularly one who has rejected Christianity? Would you answer questions from a Christian perspective, or from one that has rejected Christianity?

Hmm... I sort of think you're prescribing him ulterior motives where there may not be any. This is a forum he is active in, with people who are, predominantly, like-minded. Getting other peoples' opinions isn't underhanded in any way.

Well our rules are in stasis until we can sort them out properly but, yes, the idea of anyone being able to call themselves a Christian is nonsensical.

Weeeell, the voting is anonymous, and I don't believe it was a trap of any kind. Anyone can, and should, be a member of this forum. But its label is Conservative Forum as it is the home forum of anyone that considers themself a conservative Christian.

Does that mean you're not completely welcome? Nopies. And its being otherwise would be rubbish. But it means the forum has guidelines which hold to a conservative Christian view.

I'm non denominational because I think the idea of denominations does more harm than good, but I don't suppose that's overly relevant. As to other Christians... moo? Of course they get a say. Let's assume there's a billion or so Christians: that means that there are a billion or so individual relationships with Jesus, and a billion or so interpretations of the Bible. The interpretations will differ to varying degrees, but the only One who truly and categorically understands every word of the Bible is God. Any person would be grossly in error to believe they are the only one that understand it all correctly.

That being said, there are certain parts, concepts and sentiments which are just not open to interpretation or debate, so people then willfully choose to misinterpret it to fit their lifestyle.

People that chose to leave felt God was leading them to do so, so they did the right thing.

Many do say that... but I think the point of this discussion is getting away from us. Either that, or I've become woefully confused, cos I don't see the relevance of this line of dicussion? That doesn't preclude our discussing it, but am lost as to what we're actually discussing and why
