  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, no, no, my dear friend. The king of patstry happens to be galatabouriko, which is basically a cross between the canoli and baklava. It's baklava with a cream filling, in place of the nuts. My yia-yia used to make it for every large family function. I've had it in restaurants, but it's never the same. If it sits around, the phyllo gets soggy. I've looked for recipes, but they don't seem to be what yia-yia made.

I am going to be a total skeptic and say you must present overwelming evidence it is superior to baklava and until then baklava reigns supreme! :D

Yew pew......sausage in frencch toast you guys are sick!
No one will like such a combination. Just make the toast look like loukoumades... with lots of syrup. My folks who live in Athens they hated french toast... and you know why? The eggs over there are too strong and create an unpleasant aftertaste. ....yak. In the states the eggs are "less real" and less strong and french toast tastes better. Just a piece of advice. I have tried other dishes from America in Greece and the taste came out completely different ... that has been my experience

Thats why we only eat our "French Toast" with savory dishes. and speaking of pastries, RAVANI is REALLY good!

Went to the Greek festival at the big cathedral in Norfolk yesterday. Has some Moussaka (sp?), and got a sampler of pastries, my favorite was the one that looks like a big piece of shredded wheat, only it tastes 10,0000000000 times better!!! It had honey in it.

Also picked up an Orthodox Study Bible, and even said evening prayers last night. I like the fact that this bible has the prayers in it, along with the daily scripture readings that I should do during my prayers. Awesome!

Greg I like your signature but tell me do they make the "artos" with this stamp? where did you find this pic? Is this supposed to be a local tradition?

I have never actually seen a stamped artos. Most of the time the ladies put sesame seeds, or almonds on top.

I found this picture on prosphora.org

If you scroll down on this page, past the prosphora stamps:

http://www.prosphora.org/stamps.html

You will find all different types of artos stamps. I think it would be really cool, but I have never seen it done. It would actually be really cool if they had one of St. Phanourios for the phanouropita, but never the less they have some interesting ones.

I have actually baked blackforest cherry torte a couple of times, and it turned out pretty well for me not being a baker. IT is my absolute favorite cake in the whole world.

Good morning everyone!
We're getting ready to leave for church.
By the way thanks for getting me hungry this morning with all the food talk. Normally fasting isn't a problem, but I can't stop thinking about all the yummy food you all keep talking about!!!
I'll be praying a lot to the Holy Spirit to take my hunger away!!!
We get home around 3:00, I'll talk to you then.
Everyone, have a great day!!!

Have a great day as well. You are welcome for the getting you hungry thing. You can count on us anytime you need us to get your mind going on food. Maybe I should do another steak thread complete with photographs like I did a while back?

The moussaka was good but the spanakopita was great!!! We're going for lunch again today. Got back from church already because Father was gone and we only had a (speed) Reader service.
Now we're making BAAACON!!!!! Dogs are going NUTS!!!! :p

Well we're from church. You guys in VA are so lucky that your Greek Festival is now. The Greek Cathedral in Denver always has their festival in June during the Apostles Fast and the Orthodox can't go and enjoy the food because we're all fasting. Isn't that a bummer!!!
