  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mary is the Ark of the new convanent.

We know them quote well. We put them together in the BIble an dhave been studying them from the most part of 2000yrs.

2 Samuel 6:9
David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?"

Luke 1

43"And how has it happened to me, that the mother of (AY)my Lord would come to me?

Peace

 That is...so...I'm so upset I don't know how to reply to that. Just know that I very much disagree with that interpretation of scripture.

The Ark of the Covenant has represented an array of themes in Catholic tradition.

Now, the symbol is once again being used, in a tangible form.
The Ark of the New Covenant, an artistic work conceived by youth in Quebec, is making its way across Canada in advance of the 49th International Eucharistic Congress being held in Quebec City in 2008. It will stop only five times in the Peterborough diocese, including a Thursday, Feb. 15, event at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Courtice.
The Ark was blessed by the Pope in Rome before beginning its journey, said Father Stan Ilo, a priest at St. Therese.
"We are lucky it will come here," he said, noting after the 2008 Eucharistic Congress, the Ark will travel the world.
The Ark itself is a large wooden vessel. The base is in the form of a boat. On the top of the Ark are four large icons, representing the Last Supper, the Passion and Death of Christ, the Vigil of Mary, and the Resurrection. As well, there are smaller icons, representing the multiplication of the loaves, the wedding at Cana and the washing of the feet, all of which have important meaning within Catholic theology.
The event in Courtice "will be an occasion for sharing, teaching, celebration, transformation," said Father Chu Ilo.
It will be an ecumenical event, with those of other religions invited to "share what we have in common," he said.
The welcoming procession for the Ark is expected to happen at about 5 p.m. Public viewing of the Ark will be from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a High Mass. After mass, there will be a reception, and the Ark will remain in the Church until 8:30 a.m. Friday, at which point it must leave for its next destination.
"The Ark will be sitting in the middle of the Church from the time it arrives until after mass, then it is to be placed on the altar," said William Banks of the parish's Knights of Columbus. "There will be an honour guard of Knights ... and people will be encouraged to pay their respects" to the Ark.
The Ark has come to symbolize a great deal within the Catholic Church, said Father Ilo. "It is a powerful symbol. It unites everything," he said.

Scares me too that the Knights of Columbus are mentioned..but I won't go there on that one...

I can't get the picture here. Sorry, but it is a nice wooden ark....and Mary's face front and center. Now tell me...you don't worship her? Sorry, that sealed it in my head. Some of you had me almost convinced otherwise...but...sorry.

Yeah, for sure.

we first have to reason to what is the covenant.. In the OT is was the Law... In the NT the covenant is Christs blood that was shed for the sins of man kind... Therefore what is the Ark of the covenant? Christ. For it was HIS blood that was shed for the NC.. It was not until Christ died on the cross that the earth shook and the veil in the temple was torn.. The new covenant was finished as Christ spoke.. It is finished... So therefore Mary cannot be the ark of the covenant. For it was not her blood that was shed.. For in the scriptures Jesus is called Emmanuel, God is with us..The scriptures never say Mary is emmanuel.. So therefore.. The ark of the covenant cannot be Mary... For we have a new covenant and a new High Priest... Jesus shed blood is our new Covenant and Jesus is our new ETERNAL Preist...

It's not a literal translation. It's a metaphorical one.

The Ark contained the Old covenant.

Mary carried with in her the New Covenant.

It was not only His blood. It was His flesh and His divinity as the 2nd person of the Trinity that healed humanity back to God.

And MAry carried Him. Jesus the New convenant with in Her. This makes her the Ark of the New Covenant.

No one belives that she was crucified for our sins so....

Why does it upset you?

Peace

Because, I don't agree with it. That's not what I was taught. It's not what I believe and it's not the way those scriptures should be interpreted. I wish...never mind.

Mary carried in her the sinless Christ.. Christ carried in HIm the new Covenant.. The blood that was to be shed.. Therefore making Jesus the Ark of the New covenant...Therefore making Mary the wonderful Jewish woman that she was and blessed for she rejoiced in God her Savior that He had picked her to carry the one whom would ransom men from their sins...

Is Mary a source of holiness? And another thread, now closed, Is Mary the Mother of Jesus? I stand amazed at what I have read. I have always supposed that Protestants and Catholic at least agreed on basic Christian doctrine. I now know I was wrong and stand corrected as there are those who question even if Mary is the Mother of God. I will not make the mistake in the future of thinking that all Protestants agree on basic Christian doctrine. And I am not talking about if one worships Mary or not. Mother of God? You bet she is. Guess I had better leave as I am angry at some beliefs I have read on the other thread. I last prayed on this thread that God bless us both, Pro's and Cath's. Now I pray He helps us all.
