  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is Mary a source of Holiness?

I agree this is quite disturbing..

Ok, 'what if' it is dead on?
Then what?

SInce I understand this...I am not perplexed by what it means, nor do I find it disdainful....

So you are saying that someone called Mary blessed and He said she wasn't?

You talking about this?

27And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Jesus was saying here that those who obey God are blessed. He was saying the fact that His mother bore him in her womb is not what makes her blessed, but the fact she obeyed God that makes her blessed. She was the opposite of Eve. If it wasn't for Eve disobeying God, would would have never seen death, and if it wasn't for Mary obeying God, we would have never seen life again..

Don't twist Scripture.

I'm not quite sure why you felt the need to reply to my post. I have no desire to debate this and I'm not consumed with the need to convince you that I feel you're wrong. Since you brought it up I will say one thing and leave it at that. During those years that you mentioned the Bible was only available in Latin and was prohibited for the common people to have it in their language. I'll leave it to each individual to ask themself why. But it was only after it became available in other languages that people began to see the fallacy of the teaching of the Catholic church and thus creating the mass exoduses that occured.

Someone needs a history lesson. You think the only Bible was in Latin? The Bible itself was written in greek, so you think the Greeks or the former Jews had a Latin Bible? The teachings of the Bible and teh Church were around well before this mass exodus you speak of. St. John Chrysostom wrote homilies on the Bible.

And by the way, I am not Catholic..

Mary has nothing to do with the Grace of God.. Gods grace is from Him alone.. Mary was a recipient of this grace and not a contributor..

You tell me not to twist scripture and they you post this? Okay then.. And in what Jesus said how do you get what you say.

Yea, rather...says alot. The woman said "blessed is the womb that bore you". He said "Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it." He was saying she was blessed for hearing God, and obeying His Word. Either way your point here is moot. Mary heard the Word of God and kept it, and obeyed. He says here that those who hear and keep God's Word are blessed. Therefore since His mother heard and kept the Word, HE is calling her blessed..

Also the original Greek word used where "rather" is translated is menoun. Which means "indeed", or "on the other hand".

oh i thought it was actual giving her veneration.....didn't know that, so you think she hears your thoughts? i dont think you do but im just going to ask anyways.

Venerating someone is honoring them. It's not a physical thing, allthough it can be conveyed that way. And what I meant by "it's what you think" is that it is the state of mind you have for a person.

Does she hear our thoughts? Not on her own accord, let's just say that.

actually He was saying that Mary was not the one to be venerated and that all that do the will of God are blessed.. Therefore saying that Mary is not any better than those whom do the will of the Father.

But before you said that Jesus corrected someone who called her blessed, yet He didn't..that is the point here.

But anyway He actually said, "Yes indeed, blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it".

The Holy Scriptures should never have been translated to English, or latin either for that matter. The more it is translated the more it changes meaning.

English speaking people need to understand the Greek language and the culture in which The Holy Scriptures were written.

Forgive me...

God has NO MOTHER folks.

God is our CREATOR, and we are HIS CREATION. We do not worship the creation, but rather the creator. God went through a whole lot to send his only son to die for us on the cross, tearing the veil that seperated us from Him because of our sin, so that we are finally able to have a relationship with him to trivialize it with humanity. Mary was indeed blessed to be chosen to be God's vessel, but even Mary is still a decendent of the seed of Adam and Eve, and that is our naturally inherited SIN. So, Christ died for Mary just as he died for everyone on this planet. Do not be confused. There is only one heirarchy in Heaven and on Earth, and that is God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit which are all one.

1x1x1 = 1

1+1+1+1 = 4

We serve ONE GOD folks. Not one God, and other smaller gods. ONE GOD. All are subject to him, and all are in submission to him, even the human Mary.

So the EO think Mary hears thoughts?

Scripture does not back up that Mary is a source of holiness..
therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God....

Is not the "Ark" which carries the "Word of God" also "holy"?

I dont know where this quote you have came from but surely the "holiness" of Mary is a shining example and model of "holiness" in His Church...

Condensing things? To say that the only available Bible was in Latin, and that it was kept from the people, is just plain lying..or missinformation.

Where in this thread have a Catholic and Orthodox disagreed?

Mary is NOT the ark of the covenant one more time.. Jesus is the Ark.. We as a body are His temple..

Let's see, the Ark carried the 10 Commandments which was written by the hand of God, and was the Word of God. Jesus is the Word of God, Mary carried Jesus...you don't see the resemblence? How is Jesus the Ark? Did He carry Himself?

WHERE do you come up with Mary is the Ark?? SO not true...MAN oh man. I am going to have an anurisem.

Read above..
