  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's clear that this is what would happen if abortion was banned and one of the main reasons why im pro-choice.

In favor of general abortion or not pro-choice is the position to be in. We need safe clinics where women can be given safe treatment and medical advice, than visit some underground "doctor" or have DIY abortions.

Geiger, unfortunately that is not an option in this thread, I started this thread with the hope that some people may see with stating an discussion in such a manner is unfair and shows little respect to the opposing side. I'm thankful for the civil replies thus far though.

I'm in favour of the view that sex isn't a recreational activity to engage in without foresight and that if you do something that can create human life, you accept the consequences of that action and don't get an easy out. I understand that's a relatively rare viewpoint, though....

Falling down stairs/pennyroyal tea v. clinical? I'd have to say clinical, though I'd rather it was neither.

I'm in favor of the view that children should be seen as loved and welcome members of a family, not as "consequences." Forcing a woman to keep a child that she genuinely does not want or cannot provide for, or pushing that child off onto the overburdened and underregulated foster care system, does not strike me as an ideal situation for anyone involved.

Agreed, though as far as my personal preference being "neither," I'm not about to try to legislate that preference. However, better education about sex and birth control should go a long way to bringing that preference closer to reality.

What could possibly make an agnostic think such a thing? Are you sure you're not a conservative christian?

I know this is a spoof thread but I have considered that if abortion is actually ever made illegal alternatives will be found. Not the "punch in the stomach" kind of thing but something that will be done privately (such as a tea or other ingestible substance, or a safe at-home procedure...all in the early stages of course) so that prolifers will have nothing to protest because they can't get into everyones personal business. I also wonder if some will try to find way to do just that based on hearsay or suspicions of someone being pregnant who they fear will "do something" to end the pregnancy. I try to tell myself I'm just sliding down a slippery slope with that kind of thinking but you never know...

This is also the opinion of most pro-choice.

I'm pro-adoption, pro-fixing the foster-care system, pro-neonatal and postnatal health care, pro-caring about the health of the mother, pro-holding-the-father-responsible-too.

In short, abortion procedures must be able to be performed in a proper, clean, safe medical setting, but the number should be reduced by changing society to facilitate healthy, safe, happy pregnancies and good, kind families for children.

As usual, there is no single right answer to this question. Abortion because mom and child would die otherwise from whatever medical malady is very different from abortion because mom-to-be wants to keep partying without having to care for a toddler.

But generally (assuming that "abuse towards the pregnant" means abortion being illegal) I'm against it.

I am for teaching responsibility and sexual morality, I am for the preservation of life no matter the location or developmental stage, I am for fixing the moral fabric of society, I am for improving living conditions of those less fortunate, I am for protecting those that are incapable of protecting themselves and are seen as a lump of cells that can be removed because they are seen as an inconvenience...does that answer your question?

I didn't vote in the poll, but I will state my opinion. I don't support abortion at all. I do believe that all women who are pregnant should give birth to their child, since it is a gift from the Lord. However, I realize that is not always going to happen. Make abortions legal, but no goverment assistance in paying for the abortion.
