Somewhere right now there's someone who needs your help. The devil wants us all to believe we don't have time to do more - but that's a lie.
Everything we do is in service to something. Much of what we do is in service to ourselves. What does it mean to serve God? When we choose to serve God, our focus turns to pleasing Him by following the teachings of Jesus.
John 12:44-45 (NASB)
Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.”
Serving God is a demonstration of your love for Him through loving service to others. Loving God with all your heart and loving your neighbor, as Jesus Christ taught, is the essence of serving God. All service to God is accomplished through the power which He supplies and therefore binds us together with Him. In His power we can always do more.
Our journey toward serving God starts here:
Matthew 22:34-40 (NASB)
But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. ’On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
In this one statement Jesus has made serving God very simple: Love God. Love your neighbor.
