There are over two billion people in the world who profess to be Christian. Of course, some will say they aren’t all truly Christian, and that may or may not be true, but let’s just go with this number for now. Some quick research showed there were an estimated 500,000 Christians in the first century and that number gradually increased century by century for a total of about one billion Christians who are now deceased. So based on this information, it seems that the Christian church equals about three billion souls. Even if this math is way off, I think it’s safe to assume that the total number of Christians throughout history totals an enormous number of people. Whatever that number is, three billion or something less doesn’t matter, because the final number is one. We are one body in Christ.

“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” Romans 12:4-5 (NASB)

The collective spirit of all Christians equals one. We are one spirit guided by Jesus. I’m certain all true believers are constantly seeking to feel the spirit of God guiding them. Should we also be seeking to feel the spirit of all our Christian brothers and sisters moving us along the path Jesus has placed before us? While we each have our own unique role to play, we should all be moving in the same direction as followers of Jesus. We are all moving toward our final destination and our eternal existence with Jesus. Can you feel that energy? Can you feel the power of billions of Christian souls traveling with you toward eternity? It’s something to think about. God is with us always. And the collective spirit of all our fellow Christians is with us always. Together we are one.
