It will take a lot of maturity in the word to counter the subtlety of the devil, for his deception can be perpetrated using even the most innocent of means to do that. The concerns of others, the thoughts of others, spoken in innocence can be latched upon by the enemy to perpetrate a deception. Remember the goal of the devil's deception is to weaken our spiritual position and this is achieved when he projects thoughts and imagination, ideas and concepts that are totally against the counsel of God!
The other day my daughter got the usual SMS that the Nigerian center for disease control has been sending a lot during the covid plandemic. She was so angered by its content, a content that really is part of the work of the NCDC to help mitigate the spread of the virus. The message was to sensitize people on the need to be careful! This is necessary and great. Yet such a message can be the very tool the devil uses to corrupt our mind from the simplicity in the gospel. My daughter was word alert, she won't entertain such thought and promptly deleted the message!
I asked what was the content and she said the message reminded her that " all the people that have been reported to have covid19 are humans like you". Now that makes sense, but the devil always plays on what makes sense! So I asked her what is your take on it, and why did you delete the message and she replied message NCDCs messages are for humans not gods like herself! Praise God! And then I joke that she should have replied the message with that response instead of deleting it!
2 Corinthians 11:3 tells us, "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ"
This is the spiritual warfare we fight every day been spiritually alert to thwart deception in its course! It's the subtility of the devil against the simplicity of the gospel! It's very simple the word says you are gods and that is all of you that are children of the highest God! You either accept that revelation in its simplicity or you fall for the subtility of the enemy!
Don't get me wrong, that message from the NCDC is part of their work and what they ought to do, it's a well-intentioned message, but if you allow your thoughts dwell on it as a believer then you will begin to think like a human and not like a god that you are!
Hence in this second installment on deception and the third on being afraid of your father's house, we will look at three key principles that highlight how deception works and is spread!
1) DECEPTION IS OFTEN VEILED AS SPIRITUAL TRUTHS
Ephesians 4:14 tells us that deception is hard to differentiate from the truth, only by spiritual maturity are we able to discern the difference.
"Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth"
Ephesians 4:14 NLT
In other words, deceptions are lies cleverly packaged as truth! It's why it's so difficult to see and perceive! Deception is often veiled in spiritual truth, albeit truths that are distorted, cleverly concocted in such a manner that they sound like the truth. This was what Satan attempted with Jesus when he tempted him in Luke 4. He said to him,
"If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee"
Satan asked Jesus to jump quoting this scripture. However in the original text in Psalm 91 what does the word say,
"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways"(Psalm 91:11)
Can you see the difference between the two passages? Want to have a look again at both quotations? Still, it almost looks the same on the surface, but when you probe deeper the spiritual connotations and meaning and context are different.
In the context of Psalm 91, God says when you go on your way the angels will keep thee from dashing your foot against the stone, he said he would 'keep thee in all thy ways'. However, this was different from what Satan suggested to Jesus! What Satan suggested was a suicide attempt, "jump down from the cliff and he will give his angels charge over you to keep you from been hurt". This was so different from what the word says in Psalm 91 and yet without looking closely you will not see! This is how deception can be veiled.
Now there is a reason why Jesus didn't jump down, it was not because he would be committing suicide, no! In fact, to jump down successfully Jesus doesn't need the intervention of angels. Remember this was the same Jesus who in John 6 walked on the seas! Jumping from the top of a cliff is the peanut to the one who holds the world together Jumping down at the instance of that misquoted passage of Bible by the devil will be Jesus validating that deception as the truth! Jesus by jumping down will be endorsing the devil's lies and deception! Hence Jesus didn't move at Satan's word! God promises to keep us in all on our ways not for us to jump off the way!
That was what revelation said, but deception distorted the truth slightly in a way that the undiscerning mind will not be able to decipher! It, therefore it goes without saying that deception can be propounded on scriptural bases! God's word can be twisted to promote deception.
Deception is perpetrated when spiritual truths are twisted. Deception is perpetrated when half-truths are presented as the whole truth! That's what is happening today, we are been told the building is not necessary it is a half-truth, half gospel, not the full gospel!
Deception masquerades as truth and that is why it gains ground, grows, and spread until it is accepted by all!
