A Side Note on the Reasons for Good Works and a Mini Note on 'Cheap Grace':Jesus Christ is the only way of eternal life, not good works. But good works are placed here because of two reasons: one, it is chance to show your gratitude, obedience, and love towards Jesus (as God sees loving Him is following His commands) and two, an oppourtunity to show and testify to God's Love and Grace. When we are filled with Spirit, we want to do good works to please and love Him, but just remember, all things are through Christ and Christ alone. Salvation is only through repentance and Jesus Christ, and Him alone. However, we still want to obey God as much as possible. The gift of forgiveness should not be "used" (this is called 'cheap grace'). It is not a justification or an excuse to sin. The Holy Spirit convicts of guilt (one trait of it). If you truly were filled with Christ, you would know that you were a sinner and repent of your sins. Also, you would hate sin and try your best to not to do such things. We are never perfect, but that does not give a justification or excuse to give into a sin.
"I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God. It was not the result of your own efforts, so you cannot brag about it. God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing." ~Ephesians 2: 8-10~ (NCV version) ^-^
