Volunteer Opportunities

There are many outreach programs and organizations that cannot survive without volunteer workers. Many of these are faith-based organizations, but there are also many that have no official spiritual connection yet continue to do God’s work helping those in need. Chances are there are some opportunities for you to serve within a few miles of your home. Even if it’s a bit of a commute, any time you spend in service to others is a direct extension of your service to God.

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 (NIV)

God has granted you with certain skills, plus the time and resources to do good works for others. Spending time as a volunteer is already written into your DNA. If you’re a true believer, I’m sure you can feel the need and desire to help others.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

The Internet makes it easier than ever to get connected to a volunteer opportunity that fits perfectly with your God-given skills and your heart for serving in His name. Below is a list of links that will help you get started. Say a prayer before you begin going through these links and ask God to let you know where He wants you to serve. Consider asking a group of friends to join you in your service. Working together will help you grow closer to each other as you grow closer to God.

Volunteer at Church
Every church I’ve ever attended is in need of more volunteers. If you are not already serving at your church, I know they can use your help. Serving the needs of other believers is important work that should not be overlooked.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:10 (NIV)

Giving of yourself is the seed from which will grow a much deeper connection to God. God has given each of us a great deal and serving others is the way He has asked us to return that gift. If you are not volunteering in some capacity, you are missing out on an opportunity to experience God’s love working through you. Let your light shine in service to God by serving others.

“And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday.” Isaiah 58:10 (NASB)
