"Take away the dross from silver, And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry." (Proverbs 25:4 NKJV)
Dross: The scum or unwanted material that forms on the surface of molten metal. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
The unwanted material in any metal ore will prevent it from being processed into a useful state. Hence the need to remove them. The dross will render useless a metal that would have been otherwise useful to individual or mankind.
When the dross in the silver, for instance is removed, the silversmith will have raw pure silver to fashion into something useful.
So much more is our lives, the presence of impurities will hinder us from attaining the full stature of Christ. It will hinder God's work on the surface of the earth. Though He is the Almighty, He prefers to work with human beings in order to achieve His purpose on earth. But impurities in form of sins and unwholesome habits will not allow us to execute God's purpose to the glory of His name.
Our constant prayer to God must be "oh Lord, take away the dross from my life". A person that is thoroughly purged of dross will become a vessel unto honour. We must labour on our purity before God. We must also ask Him to reveal those things in us that constitute impurities. Some legitimate things in our lives are actually impurities, but when we expose our lives to God and His words, He will reveal them to us.
ACTION PLAN: We must deliberately expose ourselves to God's words for the purpose of sanctification.
PRAYER: 1. Reveal to me, oh Lord, by the instrumentality of Your word, every dross in my life.
2. Grant me grace to uproot them and become pure for Your purpose.
