Adam: The Genesis Of Mankind

Introduction: It is with fear and trembling that I venture to undertake to do the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis on the patriarchs of old in the Bible. This is intended for our learning and admonition. This is not first and foremost for your enjoyment. It is to serve as a mirror with which we x-ray our life and make necessary adjustments. The first character we will be studying is Adam. He was the genesis of mankind. The first fruit of human race.
God created him directly from the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7). He provided all necessary resources for him in order to fulfill the purpose of God on earth.

A. Strengths: The Lord made Adam in His image and likeness. This connote that he was endowed with God's grace to successfully represent Him on earth. Some of his strengths are as follows:
1. High Level of Intelligence: Adam was able to tap into God's intellectual resourceful when God asked him to name all the animals. Whatever God ask a man to accomplish for him, He has all the necessary resourcefulness for him to bring to it bear on earth.
2. Unbroken Communion with God: Every cool of the day, the Lord visits him and his wife. He was in constant communion with God. There is always a void in our lives that only God can occupy. Have you been trying to fill this space in your heart with money, fame, power etc. How has it been? Nothing in the world will satisfy, in fact everything in the world is mirage. You cannot lay hold of them, they are like mist.
3. A Help Mate for Companionship and Support: God gave him a help mate for the purpose of companionship and support in life and ministry. Eve was a good gift from the Lord to Adam. She was not a necessary evil as the world system will have you believe. The husband and his wife joining forces together are far better than one. They will have good reward for their labour. They will provide warmth of fellowship and friendship for one another. They will help each in spiritual warfare (Eccl. 4: 9-12).

B. Weaknesses: He was created perfect and with a will to choose either to obey God or the devil. The will is not a weakness in itself but an opportunity to decide what to do per time. The Lord did not intend to have robots as servants. He wants us to always have the freedom of choice.
1. Naivety about His Enemy: He was naive to the presence of his adversary, the devil. This would not have been a problem if he always acknowledge God in all his ways.
2. Negligence of His Support Base: He neglected his support base of getting interpretation from God all the times. God was expected to interpret everything he encounter in life to him. He presumed to ascertain what is good for him in life. This landed him in serious trouble. Are you any different my friend? How did you get into what you are currently doing?
3. Hastiness in Decision-Making: Nothing would have gone wrong if he decided to wait till evening to get clarification from God (Isaiah 52:12). He did not do his due diligence to query his wife's suggestion for them to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

C. Opportunities: It is possible that Adam had a poor estimate of his opportunities just like many of us today. We tend to devalue the opportunities God made available for us and desire to have those things that are injurious to our lives.
1. Access to God: He had the greatest provision in the world: Access to the Almighty God at anytime. Unfortunately, he did not maximise this great opportunity.
2. A Blissful Marriage: The woman was added to his life for bliss and accomplishment of God's purpose. It was a great opportunity for him to engage his marriage in fulfilment of God's purpose. Sadly, he allowed the devil to manipulate this provision.

D. Threats: It was a threatening situation to allow a thought of independence from God in his heart. The devil cannot tempt a man outside his lustful desires (James 1:13-15). It is time for you to ask God for help concerning the lust in your heart.
1. Quite Desire for Independence: A longing for independence from God. This was his greatest threat.
2. The Devil: Since the scripture says every man is tempted by his own lust, the number one point above in his heart made him a prey to the devil. Are you also a prey in devil's hand due to your lust?

Your Decision: What have you decided to adjust in your life after reading this article. The first decision I urge you to make: your invitation to be part of God's family. Jesus came to bring back everything and much more than those rights that we lost in Adam. You can enter into this even right now by confessing and forsaking your sin, then trusting in the Lord Jesus to help you live a life that is pleasing to God. Accept the offer today and enter into a life of rest.

Conclusion: What are other attributes you notice from the life of our great grand father, Adam, please type them in the comment session below.
