"For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit." (Romans 8:5 AMPC)
When you discover that your pursuit is solely to gratify the flesh (the human nature which is devoid of the Holy Spirit), check the operating system again. A system that is running on Windows 7 for instance, cannot suddenly begins to perform tasks that are uniquely designed to be carried out on Windows 10. Kicking the laptop or desktop will not solve the problem, likewise scolding yourself will not make you spiritual. The only reasonable thing to do is to upgrade the system from Windows 7 to 10, then you will begin to enjoy all the capability of the latter. This is also true in spiritual matters, you can only become spiritual when the Holy Spirit is dwelling in you. He will not come into your life except the Father bid Him to do so after you have accepted the finished work at Calvary. What are you waiting for? Bow your heart and pray to God, ask Him to forgive your sins because of Jesus' death. Ask Him to send the Holy Spirit to you. If you have prayed this prayer your upgrade is successful! Hallelujah, you can now go ahead and begin to live a life that pleases the Father. You can now begin to glean understanding from the word of God, by the help of the Spirit and then receive grace to practice them.
ACTION PLAN: You are no longer under the dominion of the flesh, exercise your God-given authority and seek those things that gratify the Spirit.
PRAYER: Father, I thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
