Notes: Daniel 11:37 (cont'd) To Joel 1

(Re: Means that the Antichrist will be an atheist?)

While the future Antichrist will not regard the God of his fathers (Daniel 11:37), he will not be an atheist. For he will honor a God (Daniel 11:38-39). This will be "the god of this world" (2 Corinthians 4:4), Lucifer (Satan) the dragon, whom the Antichrist (the individual-man aspect of Revelation's "beast") will cause the non-Christian world to consciously and openly worship during his future, literal 3.5-year worldwide reign (Revelation 13:4-8, Revelation 12:9; 2 Thessalonians 2:9).

(Re: Is the U.S. the *king of the *south?)

By the time of Daniel 11:40-45, which will be right near the end of the future Antichrist's reign, the U.S. could be included as part of the "king of the south" which will rebel against him. For the U.S., as well as other countries such as Russia, China, India. and Japan, may not ever come under the same level of control as the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe will during the Antichrist's worldwide reign. But the U.S., as well as all other countries of the earth, will still come under the hegemony of the Antichrist (Revelation 13:7-8, Matthew 24:9).

What could happen is that during the Antichrist's worldwide reign, the U.S. will be under complete martial law, controlled by the U.S. government's soldiers, but still under the economic thumb of the Antichrist. For during the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24, the U.S. government could go bankrupt, and the U.S. dollar could become next to worthless in world markets. So the U.S. will become completely dependent on the Antichrist for its finances and trade.

The way that the U.S. could be considered a part of the "king of the south" in Daniel 11:40 is through the U.S.' current hegemony over Egypt, which is the king of the south in Daniel 11:5-17. At the start of the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24, Egypt could be defeated and occupied, along with Israel, by an Iraqi Baathist general (the Antichrist's precursor) leading a huge Iraqi Army (Daniel 11:15-17; in verse 17, the original Hebrew word translated as "daughter" is "bath"). After this happens, the U.S. could take up the mantle of Egypt and Israel, and attempt a counter-attack to liberate them from Baathist control. But this counter-attack could fail so miserably that the U.S. could forego any further attacks.

It is at this point that the Antichrist could arise on the world stage (Daniel 11:21) and "cut" a peace treaty with a future, ultra-Orthodox Jewish false "Messiah" (Daniel 9:26a,27a) ruling Jerusalem, after the Antichrist has defeated this Messiah and his followers (Daniel 11:22-23a). About seven years later, sometime after the legal end of the Antichrist's literal 3.5-year worldwide reign (Revelation 13:5-8), not only could the U.S. as the "king of the south" try to attack the Antichrist (Daniel 11:40), but so could Russia, China, India, and Japan. For "tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many" (Daniel 11:44).

*Daniel 11:43 / *Dan. 11:43 -

(Re: Did this happen with the relatively-recent overthrow of Egypt and Libya?)

No, for Egypt has not been overthrown (yet). For only its top leader Mubarak was removed, and then Morsi. The underlying Egyptian military regime remains in charge just as it was before, under Mubarak. It is just now under Sisi.

Also, Libya has not been overthrown (yet). For only its dictator Gaddafi was removed, and by Libya's own people, which, even though they are currently divided into two rival governments, are still the ones in power in Libya.

Regarding Daniel 11:43, it will not be fulfilled until near the end (Daniel 11:40) of the future Antichrist's literal 3.5-year worldwide reign (Daniel 12:7, Revelation 13:5-10), which will be during the second half of the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24. The Antichrist's 3.5-year worldwide reign could begin when his followers set up the abomination of desolation (possibly a standing, android image of the Antichrist) in a future, third Jewish temple in Jerusalem (Daniel 11:31, Matthew 24:15), and the Antichrist himself sits in the temple (at least one time) and proclaims himself God (Daniel 11:36; 2 Thessalonians 2:4).

Before any of this happens, the future Tribulation's first half (which could also last about 3.5 years) has to happen.

(See the "Details" section of Revelation chapters 6 to 22 (Overview) below)

*Daniel 12:1 / *Dan. 12:1 -

This will occur right after the future Tribulation events of Daniel 11:15-45, and will include the very last part of the Tribulation, when the surviving Jews in Jerusalem (who could have been protected by God's Two Witnesses during the preceding 3.5 years of the Antichrist's worldwide reign: Revelation 11:3-13, Revelation 13:5-18) will be attacked by the Antichrist and the world's armies immediately before Jesus Christ's Second Coming (Zechariah 14:2-21). This final attack will be the time of Jacob's trouble, which the Jews will be saved from (Jeremiah 30:7) at the Second Coming (Zechariah 14:5).

(Re: Is Jesus the archangel *Michael?)

No, for Michael being "the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people" (Daniel 12:1) simply means that Michael is the angelic prince over Israel (Daniel 10:21b). And Michael is only "one of the chief princes" (Daniel 10:13). So the other chief angelic princes could be assigned by God over other nations, just as Satan has assigned fallen angelic princes over different nations, such as Iran (Persia) (Daniel 10:13,20) and Greece (Daniel 10:20b). Jesus Christ is not any of the angelic princes, but is God the Son (Hebrews 1:4 to 2:16), and the fully human (Hebrews 2:16-17) prince over all nations (Revelation 1:5) and all angels (1 Peter 3:22), the Prince of all princes (Daniel 8:25b), both human and angelic (Ephesians 1:21, Colossians 1:16), and the Prince of life itself (Acts 3:15).

~

(Re: But is not the very name "Michael" descriptive of that angel being the Lord?)

No, for the Hebrew name "Michael" (H4317) is asking the rhetorical question: "Who is like God?", and so is the opposite of being descriptive, as in the angel with that name claiming to be God.

(See also John 1:1 below)

~

(Re: Does Michael cause the resurrection?)

No, Daniel 12:1-2 does not say that it is Michael who will cause the resurrection. For Michael will simply be there when Jesus Christ resurrects the dead (John 6:40). For at Jesus' future, Second Coming, He will come with all of the holy angels (Matthew 25:31).

--

*Daniel 12:2 / *Dan. 12:2 -

This will occur at the Church's physical resurrection at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (1 Corinthians 15:21-23,51-53; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16, Revelation 19:7 to 20:6), which will occur immediately after the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24 (Matthew 24:29-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8, Revelation 19:7 to 20:6), and before the future Millennium (Revelation 19:7 to 20:6). For some in the Church will lose their salvation at Jesus' Second Coming (Luke 12:45-46), so that their resurrection will be a resurrection "unto shame and everlasting contempt" (Daniel 12:2), a "resurrection of damnation" (John 5:29), because of such things as unrepentant sin (Hebrews 10:26-29), unrepentant laziness (Matthew 25:26,30), or apostasy (Hebrews 6:4-8).

Also, regarding the immediate context of Daniel 12:2...

(See Daniel 12:1 above)

*Daniel 12:4-9 / *Dan. 12:4 -

(*End / *Sealed)

The "time, times, and an half" in Daniel 12:7 is referred to in Revelation 12:14. And Revelation is an unsealed book (Revelation 22:10). So the meaning of the "time, times, and an half" in Daniel 12:7 was unsealed by the time that the book of Revelation was written down in the first century AD. Therefore, "the time of the end" in Daniel 12:4,9 must be "the end" in the same sense as in Hebrews 9:26 (see also 1 Corinthians 10:11b), which shows that (in one sense) "the end" of the world had already begun at the time of Jesus Christ's first coming and His crucifixion for our sins.

(See section 2 of Hebrews 9:26 below)

So Daniel 12:4b can be referring to many Christians, at anytime after Jesus' first coming and the writing down of Revelation (in 95 AD: Irenaeus, Against Heresies 5:30:3c), going to and fro, going back and forth, between the still-unfulfilled parts of the books of Revelation and Daniel, and these Christians increasing their knowledge of what is going to happen in our future by seeing how much these two books complement each other (cf. Isaiah 28:9-10; 1 Corinthians 2:13).

Also, Daniel 12:6,8 does not contradict that the time of the end in Daniel 12:4,9 can begin before the "time, times, and an half" in Daniel 12:7 and all of the other "wonders" and "things" referred to in Daniel 12:6,8 have ended. For the "time, times, and an half" in Daniel 12:7 refers only to the specific time period of 3.5 literal years which would later be shown from four different angles in Revelation chapters 11 to 14 (Revelation 11:2b-3, Revelation 12:6,14, Revelation 13:5,7, Revelation 14:9-13), the detailed events of which have never been fulfilled. And Daniel 12:6 refers to the specific "wonders" which the prophet Daniel had just been told about in Daniel 11:2 to 12:3, which also include detailed events which have not yet been fulfilled (Daniel 11:31 to 12:3), including the Church's physical resurrection into immortality (Daniel 12:2-3) at the time of the future Antichrist's defeat (Daniel 11:45 to 12:3, Revelation 19:20 to 20:6). But Daniel 12:4,9 refers to a more general "time of the end" which began in the first century AD (Hebrews 9:26; 1 Corinthians 10:11b).

One part of Daniel which could have remained sealed for most people until recently is the understanding of Daniel 12:11-12.

(See Daniel 12:11 below)

~

While Daniel 12:4 was referring to the words of the book of Daniel, it was not referring to all of the words. For most of them were not sealed, but are plain on their face (e.g. Daniel 1), just as much of the book of Daniel was fulfilled (whether completely or only typically) in the ancient past, even long before the book of Revelation was written down in the first century AD. For example:

1. Daniel 1:1 to 2:30, Daniel 3:1 to 6:28, and Daniel 10:1-31 happened in the sixth century BC.

2. See Daniel 2:31 above.

3. Likewise, see sentences 1-2 of Daniel 7(space) above.

4. See paragraph 1, and also the "Antiochus" sentence, of Daniel 8(space) above.

5. See sentence 2, and also section 3, of Daniel 9:26 above.

6. See Daniel 11(space) above...
For example, see Daniel 11:4(space) above.

7. See Daniel 11:10 above.

8. See Daniel 11:20 above.

9. See Daniel 11:21 above.

10. See sentence 1 of Daniel 11:31 above.

*Daniel 12:7 / *Dan. 12:7 -

The original Hebrew word (mow`ed: H4150) translated as "time" and "times" can mean "a fixed time ... conventionally a year" (Strong's Hebrew Dictionary). So the "time, times, and an half" of Daniel 12:7 is referring to the same time period as the future, literal 3.5-year worldwide reign of the Antichrist (Revelation 12:14,6, Revelation 13:5, Revelation 11:2-3).

--

*Daniel 12:7b / *Dan. 12:7b -

This means that at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming, He will come to a Church which will have been completely defeated physically by the Antichrist. For during the Antichrist's future, literal 3.5-year worldwide reign, he will be allowed by God to make war against the Church and to overcome it physically in every nation (Revelation 13:5-10, Revelation 14:12-13, Revelation 20:4-6, Matthew 24:9-13). It is only when the Antichrist has completely broken all of the physical power of the Church that the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24 will end (Daniel 12:7b), and Jesus' Second Coming will immediately occur, at which time He will physically resurrect and rapture (gather together) the Church (Matthew 24:29-31; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8, Revelation 19:7 to 20:6), of all times. And at His Second Coming, Jesus Christ will tread the winepress of God's wrath alone (Isaiah 63:3, Revelation 19:15-21), and so He/God will get all of the glory for defeating the power of evil on the earth (Deuteronomy 32:39-43). For He/God will not share this glory with the Church (cf. Isaiah 42:8-14, Isaiah 26:18).

(See also section 2 of Matthew 16:18 below)

--

*Daniel 12:10 / *Dan. 12:10 -

This refers to the time of Daniel 12:11-12, which will occur during the second half of the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24.

(See Daniel 11:33 above)

--

*Daniel 12:11-12 / *Dan. 12:11 -

This and Revelation 16:15 could mean that 1,335 literal days after the abomination of desolation (possibly a standing, android image of the Antichrist) is set up in the holy place (the inner sanctum) of a future, third Jewish temple in Jerusalem (Matthew 24:15, Daniel 11:31), Jesus Christ's Second Coming will occur, and blessed are those Christians who will wait and remain obedient until that day. If the literal 1,260 days of the future Antichrist's worldwide reign (Revelation 13:5-8, Revelation 12:6) will begin when the abomination of desolation is set up; and if the seven vials of God's wrath will begin on the day after the 1,260 days of the Antichrist's worldwide reign (Revelation 11:15,19, Revelation 15:5 to 16:1); and if the first six vials will be poured out over thirty days; then the sixth vial could be poured out on the 1,290th day after the abomination of desolation is set up (Daniel 12:11).

It is on this 1,290th day that the blessing of Daniel 12:12 and Revelation 16:15 could be given, after the sixth vial has been poured out (Revelation 16:12), encouraging those in the Church who will still be alive on the earth at that time to keep holding on just 45 more days until Jesus Christ's Second Coming on the 1,335th day. The 45 days could be taken up by the gathering together of the world's armies to Armageddon (Revelation 16:14,16) (Har Megiddo: Mount Megiddo in northern Israel), and then their moving south to pillage Jerusalem, right before Jesus' Second Coming and their total defeat (Zechariah 14:2-21, Revelation 19:19-21).

*Hosea 1:11 / *Hos. 1:11 -

This can refer to the future Millennium, when the "one head" of Israel will be the returned Jesus Christ (Isaiah 9:6-7). When Hosea 1:11 says that they will "appoint themselves" one head, the original Hebrew word (suwm: H7760) translated as "appoint" can mean "regard", in the sense of giving heed to, such as regarding (suwm) God's Word in Exodus 9:21, or regarding (suwm), in the sense of caring about, that people are perishing in Job 4:20. So the Hebrew translated as "(they shall) appoint themselves one head" can mean: "they shall give regard to one head", in the sense of acknowledging that the returned Jesus Christ is their supreme King (Psalms 89:18, Isaiah 43:15, John 1:49, John 12:13).

~

The original Hebrew name (Yizreel: H3157) transliterated as "Jezreel" is derived from two words (zara: H2232; and el: H0410) which together mean: "God (el) will sow (zara)". Compare how Hosea 1:10 translates "el" as "God", and Hosea 2:23 translates zara as "will sow".

Hosea 2:23, and Hosea 1:11, could give the symbolic meaning of "Jezreel"/"God will sow". That is, He will sow (plant/establish) Israel in its land, after He has gathered its people together from the earth. In Hosea 1:11 the original Hebrew word ('erets: H0776) translated as "the land" can refer to the earth (Genesis 1:1). And the same word, translated as "the earth" in Hosea 2:23, can refer to the land of Israel (Hosea 4:1,3).

Compare also how the Hebrew word "Yizreel" (H3157: pronounced yiz-reh-ale') is very similar to the word "Yisrael" (H3478: pronounced yis-raw-ale'), that is, "Israel" itself. This close similarity of the words is lost when "Yizreel" and "Yisrael" are transliterated as "Jezreel" and "Israel". So much of God's poetry is lost in translation.

*Hosea 2:15 / *Hos. 2:15 -

(Achor)

See Joshua 7:26 above.

--

*Hosea 2:16 / *Hos. 2:16 -

The original Hebrew word (H0376) transliterated as "Ishi" can mean "husband" (Hosea 2:7).

--

*Hosea 4:3 / *Hos. 4:3 -

The "fishes of the sea also shall be taken away" brings to mind the second vial (Revelation 16:3) of the final stage of the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24.

--

*Hosea 4:18 / *Hos. 4:18 -

The original Hebrew word (magen: H4043) translated as "rulers" literally means "shields" (2 Chronicles 26:14), and can refer figuratively to someone who is a "defence" for someone else (Psalms 89:18). So here magen could refer figuratively to soldiers. When it says that they "with shame do love, Give ye", this could mean that they shamefully love to say "Give ye!", that is, to demand protection money from civilians, to augment their wages (cf. Luke 3:14).

But the context is about the people, priests, and political leaders committing spiritual whoredom by offering sacrifices to idols (Hosea 4:17 to 5:1). So the "rulers" in Hosea 4:18 could be the religious and political leaders, who could shamefully love to demand that the people give gifts and sacrifices to the idols (which gifts they then later secretly skim off for themselves).

--

*Hosea 5:13 / *Hos. 5:13 -

(King Jareb)

This refers to a king of ancient Assyria during the time of the northern kingdom of Israel (Hosea 10:6).

--

*Hosea 6:2 / *Hos. 6:2 -

(After two days will he revive us)

This could include reference to the spiritual revival, that is, the Christian conversion, of all of the non-Christian, elect Jews who will still be alive at Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming (Romans 11:26-28), which will occur after some two, 1,000-year "days" (2 Peter 3:8) after His first coming.

~

(In the third day he will raise us up)

With regard to the Jews saved at the Second Coming, they will enter the Millennium and later die naturally from old age. But they will be resurrected into immortal physical bodies at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-12), which will occur some three, 1,000-year "days" (2 Peter 3:8) after Jesus Christ's first coming.

With regard to the Church, "in the third day he will raise us up" could have a dual meaning, the first spiritual and the second physical. For Jesus Christ rose physically from the dead on the third day after His death (Luke 24:39-48), and His resurrection allowed for the spiritual resurrection of Christians (of all times) as soon as they come into faith in Him (Ephesians 2:5-6) and get water-immersion (burial) baptized into His sacrificial death and resurrection (Romans 6:3-11, Colossians 2:12). And then, at Jesus' future, Second Coming, which will occur shortly after the beginning of the third, 1,000-year "day" (2 Peter 3:8) after His first coming, He will physically resurrect the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

~

(Re: Means that Jesus Christ will return and physically resurrect the Church exactly 2,000 years after His physical resurrection in 33 AD?)

Note that the "two days" of Hosea 6:2 do not have to be exactly 2,000 years.

See 2 Peter 3:8 below...

Or, God could round something like 997 up to 1,000.

--

*Hosea 6:6 / *Hos. 6:6 -

This refers to animal sacrifices, not to the living sacrifices which Christians must offer of their own bodies to God in their daily service to Him (Romans 12:1; 2 Corinthians 5:15, Luke 9:23-25).

--

*Hosea 10:14 / *Hos. 10:14 -

"Shalman" (H8020) could refer to Shalmaneser, the king of Assyria who defeated and took into captivity the northern kingdom of Israel (Samaria) in 722 BC (2 Kings 18:9-11). Regarding his prior spoiling of "Beth-arbel" (H1009), historians are not sure where that place was, or when it was spoiled.

--

*Hosea 11:1 / *Hos. 11:1 -

(Re: A *dual meaning)

A Bible verse can include two different meanings at the same time. For example the "son" in Hosea 11:1b referred to the nation of Old Covenant Israel (Exodus 4:22) and its Exodus from Egypt. Also, at the same time, the "son" in Hosea 11:1b foretold an event in the life of Jesus Christ at His first coming (Matthew 2:14-15,19-21).

(See Daniel 11:31 and Daniel 9:26 above)

--

*Hosea 11:8-11 / *Hos. 11:8 -

This can refer to a restoration of the Jews to their land during the future Millennium (of Revelation 20:4-6). For Hosea 11:9 refers to Jesus Christ's future, Second Coming, when He will be physically in the midst of Israel, just as His roar in Hosea 11:10 brings to mind His Second-Coming shout in 1 Thessalonians 4:16. In Hosea 11:9c the original Hebrew word (bow': H0935) translated as "enter" can instead mean "depart" (2 Kings 10:12).

--

*Hosea 12:2 / *Hos. 12:2 -

This can refer to any time.

--

*Joel 1:15 -

This could refer to an ancient day of the Lord, like, for example, the ancient day of the Lord in Jeremiah 46:2,10. For Joel 1:15's context of...

(See paragraph 2 of the next entry)

--

*Joel 1:18-20 is a different event than the first trumpet (Revelation 8:7) of the future Tribulation of Revelation chapters 6 to 18 and Matthew 24. For the first trumpet will not include all of the trees being burnt up (Joel 1:19b), or the rivers of waters being dried up (Joel 1:20). Instead, at the first trumpet, only one-third of the trees will be burnt up (Revelation 8:7). And the rivers of waters will not be affected until the third trumpet, which will not dry any of them up, but will only make one-third of them poisonous (Revelation 8:10-11).

Joel 1:18-20 could refer to an ancient, severe drought, and resulting wildfires, which affected the Israelites in their land.
