Naturally Supernatural
Lord,
Help me to write what happened at the “Naturally, Supernatural Healing Conference.”
So many things happened that it is hard to know where to begin. Preparation for the conference began six weeks before it started. During that time, we worked as a group and individually reading Gary Best’s book and working through the study guide. Throughout that time, I began having visions. Each was an affirmation to me that God was real, that he was working in and through me and that the upcoming conference was going to be awe inspiring, although I had no idea how at the time.
The first night, I noticed our worship team seemed livelier than I had noticed in the past. It was as if the Holy Spirit had lit a fire under their feet and they were really hopping.
Gary gave a gifted and humorous opening speech to the conference. When he finished he said he was going to be dealing only with one malady this first night and that he felt led to ask if anyone had anything wrong with the arch of their foot. I thought, “Oh, that should be fairly easy, a Charlie horse or two.”
This conference was different than any other conference, I had ever attended because he was not going to be the one to pray for the sick, but we were. That’s right; all of us ordinary unannointed types were going to be doing the praying. Then I thought how many people could have Charlie horses? Probably only one or two could possibly have anything wrong with their arches out of the 250 people attending, right? Well, to my shock there were half a dozen people. Still the numbers were on my side because we had around 40 people on the prayer team. With half a dozen people per person, surely one of them could cure a Charlie horse. Well, God had other ideas. When I first went down to the front to pray, I saw one of the women was short like me and had a pastel pink jacket. She didn’t look too scary to me so I took her by the hand and led her back to my group which was myself and two others.
But they said, “I don’t feel led to pray for her.” So here I stood alone with this woman. I asked her what was wrong with her arch.
I listened as she told me of the circumstances of her case. She had had surgery three years earlier for a neuroma and by some horrible turn of events the doctors had removed the “wrong nerve”.
I began to think in my head, “Nerves. Who said anything about nerves? Lord, this is too complicated for my first time praying for someone. You’ll have to do this one yourself.”
So, I started praying this lame prayer, “God, heal her foot. Heal her arch. Heal her nerve.”
Then, I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me to ask her if there was something else she wanted to pray for. Secretly, I thought, “Oh good idea, maybe we can get something easier”. So I asked her and sure enough she began to cry and told me about her ex-father-in-law who lived in Wisconsin and suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and she let out a sigh of relief like she was glad the focus was no longer on her. We prayed together in agreement for his healing of Alzheimer’s. No pressure because that far away, whose to say one way or the other.
But then I felt that nudge again to go back to the original issue. So I asked, “Would it be alright if I laid my hands on your foot?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
So, I reached down to touch her foot and the instant I touched it, I felt something. I said, “Did you feel that?”
She said, “YES, I DID? What was it?”
“I don’t know. But let’s just keep thanking Jesus for whatever it is that he is doing.”
After awhile, I asked her, “Do you feel anything now?”
She said, “Well, ever since I had the surgery it always felt like there was this sock bunched up in my shoe and at night I always have these terrible Charlie horses in the arch of my foot. When I came in tonight I had pain. But right now there is no pain. For the first time in years the bottom of my foot feels flat.”
“PRAISE THE LORD. I’m not supposed to tell you this but this is my first time praying for someone. I’m a newbie. My faith has really shifted into a new paradigm tonight. Thank-you for letting me pray for you.”
The following morning when I saw her, I felt as if I was seeing a kindred spirit. She came and I put my arms around her. “How did you sleep?”
“I slept all night. Not one Charlie horse and when I woke up I got right out of bed and usually I have to move my foot around awhile before I can even get out of bed. “
“PRAISE THE LORD”.
And that was just the first encounter on a three day journey. I have so many more things to tell.
