If your home is far from your family, and you are home alone as I am right now, you may feel lonely over this holiday season. That is understandable, as Christmas is a time that is generally focused on family with little room for the single person unless we create a tradition to deal with that.
I want to encourage you at this time. Even though we may feel alone and lonely, we are definitely not alone. Jesus is here with us, and He is providing for us.
In fact, we are in good company. At the time when Jesus was born, He was far from His Father. He was given a family to care for Him, but this was his adoptive family.
At this time, think about those who have adopted you into their lives - your friends, those who have become like family. Those who care about us and our well being. If you feel alone, tell someone you feel alone. That gives others a chance to bless you, and to encourage you.
Feel like there is no one? I've felt that way before. Have you looked at those who care about you? Who reach out to you? They are there. I know in the past I've closed the doors to those who reached out to me for fear that I would be hurt again. That didn't change the fact they cared about me and wanted to be there for me.
So if this holiday time is lonely and difficult for you, look outside of you. Ask God to show you those who care you, as well as those He wants you to care about. He knows our loneliness - He knows the desires of our hearts.
Give Christmas to Jesus - thank Him for all He has done for us, and trust Him to provide for all of your needs. He will do what is in your best... and He will show you the best.
