  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Westminster Larger Cathechism states: Question 17: How did God create man? Answer: After God had made all other creatures, he created man male and female; formed the body of the man of the dust of the ground, and the woman of the rib of the man, endued them with living, reasonable, and...

A question was asked of me: Yes, God is jealous for His glory and worship. They rightfully belongs to Him. Too often human jealously or envy involves our wanting of something we have no right to have. When a man flirts with my wife, I am right to be jealous and this type of jealously is not...

When seeking to discern the will of God in our lives we should not expect to be receiving visions, hearing audible voices, etc. I think understanding the will of God begins by fully integrating God's will into every aspect of our lives. This comes from a thorough understanding of the...

The ultimate ends for our creation by God was for God’s own glory. In all of God’s actions, the one underlying objective is that He would be glorified. God’s unchanging purpose in everything He does is to exalt the honor of His name. God is infinitely jealous for His reputation. "For my own...

Anyone who thinks God is not present in Hell misunderstand His omnipresence and transcendence. Some like to argue that Hell is but a mere separation from God, as if God is somehow absent from Hell. These same persons fail to understand that if Hell is but mere separation from God then it...

Some will claim that Judas was saved and then lost his salvation. This incorrect view stands in stark contrast from Scripture. Clearly Judas stands distinguished from the rest of the apostles, in the choice of Christ. When Christ says “I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have...

Blasphemy of the Spirit is a dicey topic. We only have the one passage, Matthew 12:22-37 (and its parallels in Mark and Luke), where the Pharisees claim Christ power to cast out a demon was derived from Beelzebub (Satan). I think in this situation it should have been very clear to the...

Man is not triune (mind, body, soul), but a dichotomy of body and soul. There is no support for tripartism in the Scriptures. This is the error of exchanged life proponents who have adopted an erroneous Greek philosophy. The duality of man is clear from Scripture, see James 2:26; 2 Cor...

How often have we encountered someone claiming they have agape love for this or that? These persons are usually parroting the words of others without a full understanding of the underlying Greek. To better understand the word agape I recommend D. A. Carson's little book, Exegetical Fallacies...

People leave churches for many wrong reasons: - never attempting to make the church better (Prov. 6:19 NIV) - dissatisfaction with style of worship, music, teaching methods, preaching style - self-conflict from lack of spiritual growth (James 1:3-4) - hurt feelings (contra to Psalm 119:165...

The Reformation sought to reclaim the message of the gospel that the catholic (universal) church at the time had moved away from. The Reformation was to reclaim the sovereignty of God proclaimed in Scripture and to move away from the apostasy of the church which had moved towards a man's...

The distinction between allegory and literalism often rests on context. An allegory uses many interconnected symbols or allegorical figures in such a way that nearly every aspect of the narrative in question has a meaning beyond the literal level—everything in the narrative in question is a...

Often, when discussing the sole authority of the Scripture, an argument is raised that the canon of Scripture was not even defined until a council met and set the canon. Yet, in truth the councils received the canon, they did not define the canon. As the Westminster Confession states 1.4...

The essential truths of the Scriptures can be apprehended by any normal Christian person. Unfortunately too many have been taught that to approach the bible intellectually will destroy their faith, as if reason is the mother of doctrinal infidelity. Philosophers that are non-believers (not...
