  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"The ten volunteers making the search were not satisfied to leave off there, and so they continued, near the shore, going far northward still to it being close to the end of that day, and then they saw very small simple shelters made from the earth, ahead."
2 Corinthians 7:2-7 NKJV “2Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one. 3I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. 4Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great...
2 Corinthians 4:7-11 NKJV “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—...
From Mirror to Mercy In my last reflection, I spoke about community as a kind of hall of mirrors—how, in others, we often see reflections of parts of ourselves. That can be unsettling. But it raises an important question: what do we do with what we see? It is one thing to catch a glimpse of...
1 Corinthians 15:1-2 NKJV “1Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.” The Gospel of Christ So, what was...
"A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." ~John 13:34-35 The sign of a true disciple of Christ is love, but not just any love: the love...
Hall of Mirrors Living in a monastery, where we share life in such a close way, can be daunting. We have different generations praying, eating, and working together. Each brings his own history, temperament, and perspective. Add to that differing political views, and it is not surprising that...
1 Corinthians 12:18-26 NKJV “18..God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body. 21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head...

"The volunteers were the others who those three had come with, and one other born among the families of this original settlement, named Epeden. He was about twenty five years of age then. All the volunteers together went out and headed north along the shore where they would expect any others to...
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NKJV “24Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable...
The Psalmist spoke to me today, from Psalm 119. Like the full range of the “Alef” to “Tav” divisions of these verses, there is scope within this psalm that is impacting me: head to toe—from soul to mind to spirit, in the full scope of my emotions and motives. Truly, “the law of the Lord is...

The world of man outside the Garden, thanks to our self-serving nature, is predestined to fail; but free will allows us to change from self-adoration to instead following the Will of God that leads this world away from death. © ...timothyu
And such an interweaving this is! Psalm 71:15 (NKJV): My mouth shall tell of your righteousness and your salvation all day, for I do not know their limits. +++ John 21:25 (NKJV): And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even...

God created a kingdom in earth. From the time of A&E until now, mankind has refused God's will and taken that kingdom for self, using it for self, and creating all the evils and oppressions and violence as a result. Jesus' good news (gospel) was that God was going to take it back. Don't get too...
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 NKJV “And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much...
Romans 16:1-5 NKJV “1 I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, 2that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also...
Life Is Good(aside from all the crap) Theodicy is the discipline that seeks to understand why there is so much suffering in the world. To say that human life is often tragic—filled with loss, pain, and mourning—is so obvious that it hardly needs saying. Yet countless pages have been written...

Admit our will, our ways of self-interest, only produces trouble, not only for ourselves, but mainly for others. Trouble is, few admit it until they are caught. God tells us plainly to not seek personal gain creating loss for someone else. Admitting we act contrary to the ways of the Kingdom and...
