Considering what Christian reliable sources of info say about the origin of the concept of an immortal soul, why do Christians insists on the contrary?
The New Bible Dictionary: “The Greeks thought of the body as a hindrance to true life and they looked for the time when the soul would be free from its shackles. They conceived of life after death in terms of the immortality of the soul” (1996, p. 1010, “Resurrection”).
The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia explains: “We are...
"I can improve upon the morality of the Bible if I copy it word for word and then reverse its position on slavery." -Matt Dillahunty
I believe that when it comes to morality, atheism defeats theism simply by remaining silent. Abrahamic religions contain commandments, concessions and/or encouragements for all of the following:
Abortion Numbers 5:11-31
Rape Deuteronomy 22:28-29
Slavery Leviticus 25:44-46
Genocide 1 Samuel 15:2-3
Mass murder Genesis 7
Compounding the problem is 1 John 3:4,...
Black Moon 2016: What It Is (and Why You Can't See It) -
Friday's sky (Sept. 30) is host to a somewhat unusual lunar event in the Western Hemisphere: a second new moon in a single month, which some people call a "Black Moon."
The lunar calendar almost lines up with Earth's calendar year, so there is typically one full moon and one new moon each month. A second full moon in a single calendar month is sometimes called a "Blue Moon." A Black Moon is supposedly the flip side of a Blue Moon:...
is Biblical inerrancy is just a theory?
Is there enough evidence to support or demand adherence to “Biblical inerrancy”, it just seems like a lot of conjecture, no substance.
I'd like to present Biblical scholar Peter Enns' thoughts in Biblical inerrancy (the first couple paragraphs from "five views of biblical inerrancy", the rest from his blog). My hope is that we can get a discussion going in inerrancy.
“The core issue, however, is how inerrancy functions in contemporary...
Exorcists are in urgent demand as a result of a sharp rise in people dabbling in Satanism and the occult, experts from the Catholic Church in Italy and the US said.
“The number of people who take part in occult and satanic practices, which lead to serious physical, psychological and spiritual damages, is constantly rising.”
It seems the spiritual war continues to intensify.
Read John 15:1-6, now look at the following verses:
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vintner. 2 He cuts off every branch that does not produce fruit in me, and he cuts back every branch that does produce fruit, so that it might produce more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of what I’ve spoken to you.
4 Abide in me, and I will abide in you. Just as the branch cannot produce fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am...
Hi all. I realize the title may sound a little sensational, but I'd like to discuss this topic as a serious possibility. The basic idea is that the return of Jesus will likely to be viewed as an alien invasion and perhaps this is (at least partly) how the AC will convince (or trick or cajole?) the armies of the earth to gather against God to fight him. The video is only a few minutes long. I look forward to hearing what others think.
Let me start by saying that I've never, not even once, seen the indoctrination of children explained to be a bad thing by any Christian. I've never seen one Christian rebuke another for the practice. In fact I don't even know if I've ever even seen a Christian even address this issue at all, apart from perhaps 1.) when a Christian is questioned on it by an atheist, or 2.) when a Christian remarks that someone is not raising their children properly (seeming to indicate a pro-indoctrination...
