  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

lol. sort of. I am going into work in a few minutes because I left some loose ends yesterday, and I don't want the girl covering for me to be left in a lurch.

I am also going to confession today, on the off chance that I croak in surgery, in which case without confession my soul would be doomed for hell. Through timing or divine intervention, our church is doing the anointing of the sick tomorrow during mass, so I am going to ask if I can go up for that.

Other than that, no I am not freaking out. and Zoloft is great.

I tried Zoloft for anxiety and my experience was much the same as MikeK's experience. I felt like a zombie, no ups, no downs, nothing. Actually, my lack of any feelings while on Zoloft made me really depressed, in an emotionally neutral intellectual kind of way. ;) I found that ironic since it's often used to treat depression as well as anxiety. :)

I tried it once many years ago, and it had no effect. I tried a few others as well. Then on the advice of a priest I got back into exercising, and that helped tremendously.
I recently read of a study demonstrating that routine physical exercise has the same effect as all anti-depressants on the market.
As Bill Mahr said "Ask your doctor if getting off your butt is right for you."
(not directed at you Michelle) :)

On the plus side, Zoloft is licit birth control...granted only by double effect, so you would have to be on it because of depression or anxiety - but if you're anxious about having more kids, this pill could be the bomb-diggity.
I can confirm that I never had a period while taking zoloft.

oh com'on, its good to hear both sides of stuff, and some of things he says are hilarious. I get his podcast

I don't mind Bill Maher, but I hated Politically Incorrect. I really wanted to hear what some of the guests had to say, but it was so unorganized and everybody (especially Bill) talked over everybody else.

That is true. He is a big time liberal atheist, and I really like to engage those types in discussion though, so I watch the show in spite of the format.

I wonder. If Zoloft had no effect on you guys, maybe you weren't really depressed to begin with. And I was. weeeeeeeee..
That is very likely the case with me. I had legitimate problems, but I don't think depression was it. I think the problem in that case was a doctor who just wanted me to get out of her office as quickly as possible.

I hear ya. I think some doctors do have a tendancy to throw drugs at people without looking for the real problem.

Under our current healthcare system, the incentive is for them to see more patients per day, rather than spend time with them. They are paid by volume, not quality.
I like the idea they have in Canada, where the doctors are paid bonuses based on patients they get to lower their blood pressure without medicine, or quit smoking, etc ... This seems more like real health care to me.
