• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm wanting to know how long it took for those of you on Zoloft to feel better. I've been on 50 mg's for just over one week and figured it would be another 2 or 3 before I saw a difference. However when I saw my pdoc this past Tuesday she voiced concern over me still feeling anxious/depressed. So, she wants me to up the dose to 100 mg's. I'll do what she says but concerned the med isn't working for me with the way she acted. Anyone? Thanks!

Some Anti-Depressants take several weeks in the body to start feeling a difference. If you're extremely anxious to the point where it's crippling then 50mg will not be enough, keep up the 100mg for a while and keep close to your doctor. Zoloft will not cure anxiety, there is no cure for mental illness, there are only symptom relievers. Once the drug kicks in you'll start to feel 'numb' so to say, like, the things that once bothered you to your breaking point will only bother you slightly. Dealing with anxiety can be a long process, so try not to rush things.

Good luck on your journey :liturgy:

Hi Jess

I see that your original post was from May 1st, which means you started the 100mg in April. Now that some time has passed, how do you think it has been working? Noticing anything different?

If you have seen some positive changes that gives some indication that the medication could work well for you, but that the dosage just needs to be adjusted. Sometimes it takes several weeks to notice the change. I know it stinks, but just try to be patient and trust your doctor.

You know yourself the best though. If you think that Zoloft isn't benefiting you, then talk with your doctor about trying something else.

Hope you are well!

I've been on 100 mg's for two weeks. I'm feeling a little better but still have some "down" moments. I bought a workbook called, "Panic Attacks Workbook" by David Carbonell. It's been a big help. I've never bought a book that really teaches so much about this condition and teaches you how to overcome. Anyway, between the Zoloft and this CBT workbook, I'm hoping to heal somewhat. God is good!
