Elisabeth,
My solution is much, much different than those mentioned. I used to have acne and rarely get acne these days and my skin typically is flawless now. My approach is healthy, cost you less money in the long run, and you'll feel totally great...but it is work, and you do have to change your habits.
Here are some of the things that caused acne for me:
1. A poor, imbalanced diet with poor quality foods
2. Excessive, undealt with stress
3. Lack of sleep
4. Imbalanced hormones
5. Improper cleaning of face
6. Drinking too much sodas & juices
7. Not drinking enough water
Once I changed all these things, maybe 2-3 times a year I might get a pimple during my period when hormones are a bit out of whack. However, if all the above things are in balance during my period, no pimples at all.
1. What is your diet like? Is it too high in fat? Too high in carbs? Lacking in protein? Do you eat a lot of processed foods? Do you have a diet high in organic veggies & fruits in moderation?
2. How do you deal with stress in your life? Do you adequately get rid of stress or avoid things and let things build up?
3. Do you get enough sleep for what your body requires? I know when it's my period time or when I'm under heavy stress or exercise, my body needs more sleep.
4. Are your hormones balanced? There are natural ways to balance the hormones but it takes at least all the other items I mentioned to be in check?
5. Do you wash your face properly? Do you wash too often? What kind of chemicals do you use on your face? Do you leave makeup on when you go to bed? Do you wash your face after sweating?
6. Do you drink sodas? Whether diet or regular, both are extremely bad for you and do all sorts of nasty things to your body. Many of the commercial juices are loaded in sugar and also are not good for you. If you're going to drink juices, it's better to make your own from fresh fruits & veggies.
7. Many people don't drink enough water throughout the day. Is your urine clear every time you pee? It's my understanding that if it is, then you are drinking enough water prior to the pee.
Every person is different, so a proper, balanced healthy diet for you is going to be different than it is for someone else. The acne on your face is basically saying there are imbalances in your body and they want to be corrected.
My beauty regimen is making sure all the 7 things above are in balance. When any of those are out of balance, my body will let me know one way or another. I personally think the things other people recommended prior to this post were well intentioned, but they do not identify the true cause of the problem and help you eliminate the problem. They only band-aid it and with that, your problem will never go away. My skin at 36 yrs old looks and is way healthier than when I was in my 20s. The only things I use on my face are: a daily inexpensive cleanser and a coconut oil moisturizer. I think I spend about $50 on all the products I use in a year.
When I didn't have the 7 things above balanced, I spend literally hundreds and maybe over a thousand dollars a year on all sorts of products that really only temporarily worked. It's truly amazing when you identify and fix the cause of the problem that the problem just goes away. Not only does my face look great, but I'm not spending a ton of money on makeup (rarely use) because my skin already looks great....but my whole body feels great from the inside out.
Blessings,
Doris
