How are they considered different?

Zimmerman is charger with murder and manslaughter, found not guilty.

Now the Fed, my understanding is investigating whether he killed Trevon Martin because of race reasons.

Because a violation of civil rights is a different crime than murder or manslaughter. That's how it is different. If we say that once someone is found not guilty of a different crime they can't be charged with another, that is a bad precedent. As I said, though, I think this should be the end of this case.

In my opinion, a wrongful death suit is what we're going to see next.

Here is my opinion in the words of Joe Scarborough over at Politico:

"I am angry that George Zimmerman could chase a teenager through his neighborhood, ignore a dispatcher’s pleas, make racially charged statements, provoke a confrontation with a young man armed only with Skittles, and pull the trigger that ended that teenager’s life, only to walk away without as much as a misdemeanor attached to his name. But I also know that the laws of Florida favored the defense, that the prosecution overreached in its efforts to convict Zimmerman on a second-degree murder charge, and that we will never know which man was screaming for help in the moments that George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin. I also know that it is a fool’s errand to second-guess the conclusions of a jury that sat through countless hours of testimony and evidence before reaching a verdict."

This was probably the right verdict, but it's a sad one. Praying

Right on.

Having come to NY to attend a family funeral, I was comforted to be surrounded by sane, sensible advocates of non-violence. Attending church with my friends today, one said, "So far everyone of my FB friends is appalled by the verdict."

She then said, "I hope you didn't drive through Hempstead to get here...did you get caught up in the demonstrations?" I told her I'd taken the parkway and wasn't even aware there were demonstrations, but I was glad to be in the northeast, my home, instead of the Bible Belt, where members of racial and ethnic minorities are probably living in fear of more frontier justice run amuck today.

Of course my sojourn in an area where we are legally protected against profilers and vigilantes will be short. I must soon return to the land of the paranoid. I'm sad. But at least I'm comforted to know that in some corners of our great country (the coasts) there are people as opposed to gun violence as I am.

I guess I'm just wondering why the African-American community and all the people in here who are crying out for Trayvon Martin's justice don't get as upset about black on black homicides!? And the fact that Blacks murder Whites at 18 times the rate Whites murder Blacks, well, it's just interesting how statistics like that are not on MSNBC or CNN or PBS or other liberal sources? Or the fact that a 2007 study showed that 93% of black folks murdered were murdered by other blacks. That's interesting also. But, man oh man, when we have a "white" guy (still find that hilarious) kill one and it gets to the media, oh the outrage!

Where's the outrage about the black on white crimes or the black on black crimes? The silence speaks volumes. I just can't believe people are dumb enough to let the braintrust mold their minds with the selective outrage and goofy lefty agenda.

I seen an african american gentlmen make this same argument, there's a video of him on youtube, i'm not going to post it because he's pretty hardcore/says some really negative/insulting things towards other black people but someone in the comments of that video pointed that a lot of the time when there's a black on black crime someone gets arrested/charged. Like the idea of a black person using the stand your ground law, seems less likely that it'd stick, but I suppose it depends on what state etc...so that could be part of the difference, but I really don't know. I just wish racism would erode away and we'd get to a point where everyone's color blind and everyone's treated equally in all aspects of life.

Since we're making it racial, remember all those white people who rioted when OJ got away with killing a white person? Yeah, me neither.

To be fair, I also don't remember white people being slaves and then subject to Jim Crow laws either.

Never fails, does it? When some tragedy affects the African-American community in just about any town and a person who is not African-American at all is involved, don't you know that the African-American could never be the one at fault, could he be?

Amazing thought patters some people have.

Janice

What in the heck makes you think that WE don't get upset over black-on-black crime??? I can't believe that you even typed that - but then again, yes I can.

The difference is that no one outside the black community cares about it, so most of (white) america doesn't care about it. The media doesn't care about it either. All you know of black crime is when the random black face comes across your news station but I guarantee that the white face is oblivious to you.

And I'm sick and tired of the argument that "Zimmerman was Hispanic so it can't be racial." NEWSFLASH - Black people are the lowest on the totem pole - Latinos, Asians, Indian, Native Americans, not one of them values black life as a whole.

Oh, and another news flash for you - Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson speak for themselves - NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE!!! Heck, for that matter, neither do I.

I am so surprised, but not shocked, that I am reading comments like this on a Christian website. People like you are the reason why some black Catholics do not like going to predominately Caucasian parishes.

When I saw that verdict, I cried, prayed, and hugged my BLACK son so tight because I know that Trayvon's mom would give anything to do the same.

Romans 12:19
Beloved, do not look for revenge but leave room for the wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Ay yay yay. Where to begin with this post. Wow! What makes me think that the black community isn't as outraged about black-on-black crimes as they are these Zimmerman and Rodney King types of situations? Well, let me start with one word---DUH!

Do you see black folks rioting through the streets over cases in which blacks kill blacks? Show me some. Do you see them getting on television or getting a hold of nutcases like Sharpton and Jackson to represent and defend them against other blacks? Well, not really! And how do you know the white face is oblivious to me? You don't even know me!? I take all crime seriously, period. But when I see a witch hunt, I call it like I see it. And Zimmerman's case was a witch hunt with the media trying to affect an outcome.

And as far as your "newsflash," nobody here said Sharpton and Jackson speak for "all black people." We merely stated that these two guys have selective outrage and come out and lead crazy protests at the drop of a hat. Please show me where I said that every black man and woman is a zombie follower of these two. I'd like to see the reference for your impassioned rant there, BB.

Your basic thesis here, which is laughably preposterous, is that since I find George Zimmerman to not be at fault and since I see Trayvon Martin as the aggressor, then by saying that on a Catholic message board, I'm somehow the type of guy that keeps black folks from the Catholic Church? Newsflash, BB, I'm Orthodox, not Catholic. Secondly, do you really think the black community, when considering Catholicism, comes on CF to OBOB to read gurney's posts to see if he's racist or tolerant to then decide if they should go ahead and convert....wooah boy....^_^

The only part of your post that I think made even a 10th of an ounce of sense was the last part about hugging your son. Not sure why you had to point out his race. My son is part Filipino and part Anglo like me. I hug him every day and don't think about his race or relate him to crimes or other stuff out there in this sick world. I just hug my three children because I love them. Simple math. Keep hugging that boy. You're obviously a loving mom, but when it comes to racial issues, you and I just disagree. But I won't put up a post against you stating you're some lunatic or wack-job like you're done to me.

Blessings. :crosseo:

This does beg the question, how long do we let black people get away with stuff because our ancestors brought them to America and made them slaves? 10 years, 20 years, 100 years?

What stuff have we gotten away with exactly?

OJ, for one. I was addressing the OJ post. The race card is always being played.

Now, another thing. Why do we always hear about the horror stories of the slaves? Were they all raped and abused by their slave owners? NO. Read uncle Tom's cabin. Read God's and Generals. Some slaves actually liked their owners. Not all were django unchained.

Until they are at a relative parity with those who's anxestors were permitted to own land and pursue an education. Do not underestimate the value of having great-grandparents who were succesful in their labors, free to pursue their whims and able to set the same high standards for their children as were set for them by their parents.
