  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok Im sure theres probobly been TONS of threads about this in the past, but you know to me anything that isnt on page one, doesnt exist. ;) also in an attempt to inject some discussion and opinion sharing, why dont you all tell us what your personal favorite book of the Bible is. I know we love it all, but is there a book that perhaps has a verse special to you, or very significant to what you believe and the way to live your life?

Hands down, for me it is Revelation...fascinated by the vivid descriptions of heaven and the work going on there...fascinated by the vivid descriptions of the earth and what is happening there....fascinated by the theories out there and how they fit or not....fascinated by the promises found therein....fascinating study in the last days of earth's history....It has taken me through the rest of the Bible to understand Revelation. It has taken years of prayer and study to glean messages and understanding that holds true when check with the rest of the Bible. Reconfirms in me the wonderous mind of God and the workings out of our salvation through the work of the Holy Spirit....Again I say Revelation.....

because of the rededication ceremony.... wow.
Pretty cool, Simchat!;) In a way the first Brit haHadasha!

I just love anything Yeshua says. He makes the entire Tenakh come to life. Such as when we parses Genesis 22:14 a different way.

...Changing: "And Abraham called the name of that place Adonai-jireh; as it is said to this day: 'In the mount where HaShem is seen.'"

...To: "And Abraham called the name of that place Adonai will provide; as it is said: 'The Day, in the mount of HaShem, will be seen'."

...Just by changing where you put the pause! And then he uses Psalm 118, "This is the Day that Adonai has made, let us rejoice and be glad in Him!", as his prooftext, just by simply stating:

"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my Day, and he saw and was glad!" (Yohannan 7:56)

When you can command Scripture that way...WOW! Slamming two scriptures together so beautifully and seamlessly. Stunning the Jewish audience (all whom know exactly what he did since they have these memorized so well)...He just blows your mind away! So prophetic, elegant and penetrating! WOW! What insight, what a beautiful mind, what kind of sage this man was!!! He just unravels the Scriptures and makes our hearts burn within us!

By far, my favorite portion of Ezra...

chapter 3:
12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of the fathers' houses, old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy, 13 so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off.

wow... The shouting of joy and the weeping was so loud that no one could discern between the two. This happened when the Torah and Temple were being restored in Jerusalem...

just, wow.

why dont you all tell us what your personal favorite book of the Bible is.
I love the Psalms, if someone told me that they only had one copy of the word and it had to be shared and I could only have one of the books contained this would have to be it. Time after time I find something new there. Such an inspiration was our King David! So full of the Love for HaShem! Yet still a man, fragile and easy to fail, strong in his belief though more than most, even his son the great King Shlomo.

You can sing them, you can meditate on them, you can get prophesy from them, you can gain wonderous knowledge and wisdom from them; they come directly from the Ruach HaKosesh, truely a picture of heaven and the kingdom to come!

The praises for the Torah and all that it is are found there, unbounding love from Abba as well. Prayers for Israel, pictures of Moshiach, supplication, teshuvah, love, war, forgiveness, it's all there!

OK,so, I am done rhapsodizing! ;)

Ummm

Nehemiah

Are you surprised?

Second is Ezra they were a team

Teh mission statement for Nehemiah Center

"To rebuild G-ds people with G-ds word that they might be restored and that his Holy Law might again be written upon their hearts"

Nehemiah was a servant of G-d And his heart was for the people. He knew they needed to be safe and to feel safe before they would accept the Law as true. Such it is today. The church has hurt people, the world has hurt people. They turn to all manner of sin and addiction to make that hurt go away. This in fact only tears down the battlements that the Lord placed there to begin with. The enemy destroys then easily because there is no defense.

By the Loving and washing of the word people are restored. The battlements are again built. They are made strong and the Law becomes important to them. The bricks we use here are the word of G-d the mortar is love.

Blessings

Psalms is amazing,

I was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the L-rd...

Behold how good and how pleasant it is when brothers dwell together echad...

And yet David was only describing his desire (the Temple wasn't built yet).

I was reading this this morning 1 Ki 8:

22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven; 23 and he said: "Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts. 24 You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father; You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day. 25 Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk before Me as you have walked before Me.' 26 And now I pray, O God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David my father.
27 "But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! 28 Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You today: 29 that Your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, 'My name shall be there,' that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place. 30 And may You hear the supplication of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear in heaven Your dwelling place; and when You hear, forgive.
31 "When anyone sins against his neighbor, and is forced to take an oath, and comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this temple, 32 then hear in heaven, and act, and judge Your servants, condemning the wicked, bringing his way on his head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.
33 "When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and when they turn back to You and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication to You in this temple, 34 then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to their fathers.
35 "When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them, 36 then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.
37 "When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is; 38 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows the plague of his own heart, and spreads out his hands toward this temple: 39 then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men), 40 that they may fear You all the days that they live in the land which You gave to our fathers.
41 "Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for Your name's sake 42 (for they will hear of Your great name and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this temple, 43 hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, that all peoples of the earth may know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that this temple which I have built is called by Your name.
44 "When Your people go out to battle against their enemy, wherever You send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name, 45 then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
46 "When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to the land of the enemy, far or near; 47 yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of those who took them captive, saying, 'We have sinned and done wrong, we have committed wickedness'; 48 and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who led them away captive, and pray to You toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name: 49 then hear in heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause, 50 and forgive Your people who have sinned against You, and all their transgressions which they have transgressed against You; and grant them compassion before those who took them captive, that they may have compassion on them 51 (for they are Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out of Egypt, out of the iron furnace), 52 that Your eyes may be open to the supplication of Your servant and the supplication of Your people Israel, to listen to them whenever they call to You. 53 For You separated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be Your inheritance, as You spoke by Your servant Moses, when You brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God."

I enjoyed that alot today!

Well personally, my favorite would have to be Job. There is just so much in it that I really enjoy, it shows a man who was able to overcome the evil inclination by holding true to G-d, a man who lost everything yet could not bring himself to curse the creator. And of cource it has to be the book with the most direct speech from G-d to man with great stories of his majesty and might. In the hard times I love to read Job and realise that its just a test and its one that I can overcome by sticking to G-d and his Torah.

Mind you, I love all the Bible pretty equally ;)
Shalom and G-d bless

The psalms for me as well.
This is where I run in times of heartache and trouble.
It's like a personal love letter from G-d to me filled it
comfort.
Regardless of the situation I'm going through,
I find Him in the Psalms telling me that He loves me
and will take care of all my cares.
The psalms is where I connect with G-d as my father.
I run to Him there like a child....into the safety of my Fathers arms and find shelter.
