A few of mine:
Robert Smith of The Cure. He makes that moaning thing sound extremely cool. (And in terms of guitar-playing, going from U2 to The Cure is like going from 2D to 3D.)
Isabelle Boulay really knows how to own a stage, and the live album Au Moment d'Etre a Vous has some of the best songs from a very impressive performer. Comparisons between her and her fellow Qubecer Celine Dion are inevitable, and I'll just say this: Boulay has taste. Dion does not.
Elton John: Can't say I really like a lot of the songs as songs, but The Way You Look Tonight is awesome. Steve Perry of Journey is another one of my favorite voices in pop music.
Joyous Light is a collection of Armenian sacred music sung by Isabel Bayrakdarian. An exotic, captivating album that propelled Bayrakdarian's opera career.
Opera notes: my favorite "'Voi, Che Sapete" is Yvonne Minton's (the Cecilia Bartoli version sounds wheezy). The Sumi Jo version of "Der Hölle Rache" gives Deutekom a run for her money, and the Natalie Dessay version is unpardonably pretty--it's supposed to be an angry song.
