so...if there isn't a crisis, you shoot evil people anyway? Do you live in america? That may explain it.

Do you always make no sense?

(I know, you do it on purpose, I get the game)

? Gone with the wind the movie.
If you haven't seen it I recommend you do its about survival.
they have a civil war in america.
Although scarlett's behaviour seems very selfish. Or read the book it's even better. Melanie is the christian, but when Scarlett shoots the yankee who is going to steal and possibly rape her Melanie says she's glad she did it.

The movie came out in 1939, the book was published in 1936. In america it was the best selling book after the Bible. It's been translated into many languages worldwide. If you haven't heard of it you may be living under a rock.

I know the movie, your reference to it made no sense, having no context whatsoever where you posted it.

Its funny, people in other countries think the US is still the Wild West where everyone who has a firearm walks around just itching to shoot someone. Well, Ive been stabbed more times that Ive been shot, so lets ban knives. ALL KNIVES. Ive owned firearms since I was a teenager. And the only times I was ever injured was when I wasn't carrying a weapon.

And if you mean that because I'm in "America" that I'm not a sheep to be led to slaughter, that I believe in freedom, liberty, and the God given right to self-defense, then youre right. When seconds count, the police are minutes (or hours) away. So, you want to be a victim, be a victim. I refuse.

The Yankee was a "marauder"/evil person. And Scarlett shot him in the face. I would never do that. I was trained to shoot center of body mass.

oh ok whatever.
she's a fictional character so it could have been made more dramatic for the movie.

I don't know why you so uptight about stuff.
You can use a knife for cutting up food, guns are pretty much useless for anything other than killing people and animals.

I would just call on Jesus and his angels to protect me. Those that didn't prepare with prayer and heed God telling them when and were to go obviously won't have that and would need firearms to make them feel secure. I don't recall any missionaries in countries stocking up on firearms and I notice most of those countries economies down the toilet. Some of them may die, but all give their lives willingly. I also don't recall them killing anyone just praying and binding the enemy. Because they are christians.

in the book Scarlett made a vow never to go hungry again.
But genuine christians do not make vows like that to steal, cheat, lie or kill. She was catholic btw. I didn't create her though, Margaret Mitchell did, so if you have an issue with that, take it up with the author (who is now passed on).

I grew up in the same house as my grandfather, who had been an US Army instructor. He had taught my brother and I how to march just after we learned to walk. He started firearms training when we were 4 using a .22 rifle.

This based on a true story.

Gotcha, I was an MP in the Army myself, I just never referred to to being instructed in that manner.

That's what my parents and grandmother referred to him as. Technically, his rank varied from January 1941 to mid July, 1944, when he took a reduction in rank and was shipped off to Europe.

But he trained us just like we were in the Army. He even built an obstacle course and rifle range on the farm. We had PT every morning after chores. He made padded staffs and used rubber knives for combat training. When I was small, I used to get spanked a lot for using the same kind of language he used. And you know sergeants aren't known for using...delicate language. He had been seriously damaged mentally during his time over there and while a POW. Even the local police were scared of him. He was extremely dangerous. But, the authorities "took it easy" on him because of his service record. He was extremely proficient at violence.

Wow, sorry to hear he was such a messed up violent man.

Not all sergeants in the millitary cuss, some can be loud, and the strength of their voice combined with their authority to command will demand your attention, but without being abusive in speech and filthy speaking.

I do have a hard time believing police are afraid of a violent man, they arrest those sorts all the time.

Well, to be frank, it wasn't just him. They chose to live on a dead end road. One way in, one way out. And they are clannish. Mess with one and you had to deal with all of them. There were 3 brothers, 1 sister, their kids, and cousins, some of whom were also vets. Remember in the Old West movies when the Army would ride into a box canyon chasing "Indians"? Remember the usual outcome? There were a couple of cases where a couple of police officers didn't make it out alive. And my kin weren't "those sorts". They were highly trained, well armed, bloodthirsty, and had an absolute hatred of authority. They came from moonshiners, bootleggers, and originally from an area where "feuding" was a recreational sport.

And the time frame where all that was going on was from the late 1930's though the 1970's. And it wasn't as if they feared the police or even prison. Some slightly more distant cousins were involved in an infamous incident in McMinn County, Tennessee. A bunch of vets decided to get rid of the county sheriff there, who was a crook. They raided the National Guard Armory and "forced" him and his buddies to leave.
