  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Since there are less than four months until Christmas I was wondering whether anyone else has started making or planning their Christmas gifts or decorations, or are in need of some ideas?

I started making handmade stockings a few months ago, I've completed four and have about seven to go. I'm using red gingham fabric for the stocking, embroidering their names in green and they have a white trim. I wanted to use fake-fur as the trim but I've had to make to with a thin feather boa type material.

Those stockings sound so cute! If you are looking for the thick faux fur that usually goes around the top, then you should look at Hancock's (if there is one in your area). Really cheap for it (right now) since it is not really in need. :)

Also, I am making my mother two Christmas pillows using an 18 in pillow form in red and green and gold plaid cotton with a red tassel trim. I loooove making pillows!

I might even make me a "gawdy" Christmas shirt *hee, hee* to wear on our day-after-Thanksgiving shop-a-thon. The women in my family compete on who can have the most gawdiest, outlandish, obnoxious Christmas sweater. I won last year....wonder what this year will be like! *heh, heh* :D

i am going to do some christmas decorations and i'm joining an advent calender swap - 10 of us are going to make advent calenders then swap them so lots of fun!!

Now THAT sounds fun...what do you do to make them? Do you embroider, put sequins and trim...that would be a neat thing to do for acquaintances and my mother-in-law and my customers!

Everyone has great idea's. We are making personalized baskets for each member of our family. We buy baskets all year long at yard sales and thrift stores then fill them with things for each person Mothers get homemade bath products Dads are getting baskets with a movie and microwave popcorn and homade popcorn flavorings. Aunts are getting coffee mugs with cocoa and tea with homeade candy spoons. Uncles get cookie baskets. We try and personal each of the kids basket with there favorite things.

I'm ATTEMPTING to make quilts for everyone. So far I've gotten 9 mostly finished...lol, I'm not done yet, but it's fun. I enjoy it. Most recently, I finished a dragon quilt for my nephew Max, and a butterfly quilt for my niece Ashley...well, the quilt tops anyway...I'm hoping I can talk hubby into helping me pin/baste them so I can get the actual quilting done quickly. ;)

It's sounds pretty ambitious when I say it like that. :D

The closer to Christmas it gets, the more ideas of things I wish to make pop into my head. I've got probably a dozen medium to small ideas I'd like to do... so why are my fingers typing instead of crocheting or knitting?... :p

also someone asked about yo-yo projects. last year i made yo-yo wreath ornaments for my Christmas tree. here's a pic.

I asked about YoYo projects...

That wreath is so cute! At a craft show a few weeks ago I saw Christmas trees made out of YoYos. The woman took about 5 different sized YoYos and stacked them one on top of the other. Then she sewed a little bell on top. She tied a string on it and made them into ornaments.
