So little about why I'm posting this and wanting to hear your ideas and best kept secrets. From home remedies to beauty ideas, garden and well just about anything you can think of, you name it I would love to hear about it. I like to re-use just about EVERYTHING and am so frugal it's crazy, but I have saved lots of money doing some of the things just with simple household items. Please share and I'm gonna share some of mine.
I never buy paper towels, I use newspapers as plates on a tray, when done eating just ball up the newspaper and in the trash it goes, I also use newspaper for draining greasy foods, works great. Good to use for saving on washing plates for those sandwich, hamburger fries kinda meals.
Also, I cut up old t-shirts and use them for cleaning and wiping greasy items before cleaning, then I just simply toss in the trash.
I use raw egg, I simply crack an egg and stir it around, rub it on my face, neck, chest and it is a wonderful mask and helps replenish your skin, loaded with proteins and vitamins, gives your skin a glow and tightens. Since raising quail I now use their egg as well and in fact it is EVEN better than chicken egg.
I save my tea bags, put em in a cup with a little water, after the egg mask I use the tea bags and rub them gently on face, neck, and chest. This also works as a self-tanner, looks like you've been in the sun and you haven't, has antioxidants etc., tightens the skin and gives a nice glow to the skin. Don't have to wash it off, leave it there and you can even apply makeup over it with no problem.
Got a splinter or glass stuck in your foot (or anywhere) simply cut a piece of fatback and apply it to the affected area, wrap it up overnight, when you get up in the morning whatever was embedded in the skin will rise to the surface and makes for easy removal, the salt draws the item to surface. Just the other day I actually removed a wart from my dad's arm using this method, worked great and no scarring.
Oily skin? Pure cornstarch mixed in with your favorite loose powder. It absorbs a lot more oils from the skin. I also use a lot of powders (baby powder) to make the bottle last longer and be more absorbant I half the new bottle up into another old empty bottle, put cornstarch in and mix around, now you have 2 longer lasting bottles of powder.
I love milk and so I make 1 gallon of whole milk into 2 gallons by dividing them up and mixing with water, the same as I did above with the powders I do with the milk. Now you have 2 gallons of 2% milk, instead of just 1 gallon of whole milk. I also freeze the 2nd jug and when I am close to the other jug running out, simply put the frozen jug into the fridge. Shake it around really well after it thaws.
I save my bacon grease, I use only 1 pan for cooking my bacon, that way when I am done I simply put a lid on it. Use it for everyday cooking that requires a little oil or butter, adds a lot of flavor. When boiling your spaghetti noodles, just a teaspoon in the boiling water helps the noodles not to clump. Works great when scrambling your eggs and adds flavor.
Athletes foot, use pure bleach on a cotton ball, rub on affected area, it kills the fungus and itch quickly.
I have really really long hair and so I can't wash my hair as often as I would like, plus washing your hair a lot tends to dry it out. So between washes, I use baby powder and cornstarch mix as mentioned above. Just a little sprinkle to the roots of your hair and it absorbs any excess oils and hair smells great. Also, works on those having darker roots, it lightens the root area. Just sprinkle lean head down and using your hands shake it through your hair.
I am severely anemic and the meds prescribed is really tough on the belly I couldn't take them, makes you really nauseated. So I went looking for an alternative. Prenatal vitamins was my answer, I take one every other day, it's loaded with iron and is also great for hair, skin and nails. Have had no problem with my iron in years.
Well, thats just a few of my home remedies and some may be old news to you, but I would love for you to share some of yours.
