  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey, I dont follow Football my friend, however the Foxes/Blue Army are still the team of my county!

I know enderby, yes, when i started driving, it seemed to be a place with loads of intertwinding residential streets, but whichever direction you want in, you always ended up back at the point i started! (even though it felt i was going in a totally diffrent direction)

Liverpool. It's not as bad as certain people would have you believe, it's really friendly and we do have the best accent in the world :D
There's some nice countryside, you just have to go further to see it. Although on the way from where I live to Widnes (only about 10 miles), you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of nowhere. Nice distance from north Wales, not all that far from the Lakes and there are some lovely beaches on the coast all the way up to Southport- Freshfields, Crosby, Formby.
Then Liverpool itself has all this history, even the shopping streets are lined with buildings with some fascinating story. I once had a guided tour round a bank (with a careers programme in school) and was told that the corridors in the basement were said to be haunted by the ghosts of slaves. :o The large square behind the town hall, called Exchange Flags, hides beneath it the room from which the Battle of Britain was run.
We have the best football team in the world too
Then there's Everton... :p

Hello Folks - I've been absent for a while, but I was pleased to find a whole bunch of Brit-ites here.

I'm in Burton Latimer (which no-one has ever heard of). It's in Northants, near Wellingborough. If you've ever been to London on the East-Coast main line and whizzed past the Weetabix factory - that's where I am.

Today has been foggy, but generally it's lovely here. The trees are clothing themsleves with blossom, the daff are going daffy and the crocusus are cracking.
My trip to school goes through the old part of the village, with iron-stone buildings and the Jacobean school house. Past the Norman church, over the bridge and past the field of sheep to the village school with fewer children in years R-6 than were in a single year of my school in Derby!

Are there any old Derbyans or Nottinghamonians out there?

Fay

Hey, I'm from Leicestershire too! Loughborough to be precise. It's a great area, I really love it.

HI MorkandMindy are in Oxfordshire, not the ancient city but the green country part where every sentence starts with: 'oh arh'.

Mork likes to be asked about science, engineering or computers

cheers, M&M

I live in Chelmsford, in Essex. I like it, really - despite the bad reputation that Essex has (or at least Essex girls and Essex boys!). I've lived here most of my life, and seen a lot of changes, but right now I'd say it's a really great place to live - it's a good town in its own right, and not far from the country. Also, if I need to get away, it's got good transport links.

However, my girlfriend lives in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, and I'll be joining her there when we get married. I was there yesterday, and I greatly enjoyed it - it's a lot smaller than Chelmsford, feels far cosier, and again very near the countryside. Also lots of good transport links, and the fact that it's really close to Stansted Airport isn't as offputting as I'd expected.
