  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As Christians we try to use the Bible so we can see ourselves from God's perspective.

As a Christian, the Bible is a vague moral guideline which justifies my religious beliefs. If you attempt to see yourself in God's image, you'll fail every time. So no, using the Christian blanket term is about as correct as saying that all Muslims blow people up.

Here is a Nova artical on the subject if you want to learn more. The information about the workers comes from archeology. Looking at the pottery that they threw away. Most of it was in good condition, just out of style. They also had a fairly good amount of gold and silver jewlery for people that have been called "slaves".

Since you mentioned the K/T boundary I want to take the opportunity to mention that since it was a global event, that layer of iridium rich ash is found all around the earth where exposed and in borehole samples in exactly the same position in the geologic column. If Noah's flood were global we would expect to find a similar layer of flood sediments and debris in the same position and date of the geologic column. No such sedimentary layer exists.

The flood as descibed in the bible was unique in all history, and rather recent at that. Wouldn't the great 'outwash' of the receding flood water take with it much 'sedimentary' evidence? And being so recent wouldn't most of any remaining sediments be at or near the surface, unpreserved by later protective overlaying deposits such as have protected the ancient sediments in the geologic column?

I have no source ready, but I think I heard something like that, too.
Be careful, you might give him/her some credibility ^_^ (just joking, for those who may have misunderstood it :p )

It would be a very interesting read though :)

Credibility? Him? ^_^

There you go. Not the same source, but similar:
How Were The Egyptian Pyramids Built?

But the process of building pyramids, while complicated, was not as colossal an undertaking as many of us believe, Redford says. Estimates suggest that between 20,000 and 30,000 laborers were needed to build the Great Pyramid at Giza in less than 23 years. By comparison, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris took almost 200 years to complete.

So yeah, less people than some may think, but still a lot.

As I stated previously, no such sedimentary layer exists. The entire science of geology grew out of 17th & 18th century naturalists, many of whom were clergy, looking for evidence of Noah's flood. They couldn't find it. Instead they found a geology that showed otherwise.

Exactly my point, we do not have a discussion because you do not understand what I am saying. Because you do not wanna understand. Nothing I can do about that.
I understood your question, I merely didn't recall the entire context. Now that I looked at the context again, I still find that my answer was correct and relevant.

Based on this explanation, I think my skepticism about your dating methods is justified.

Looking back on post #195, I find it very interesting that you cite a reference that describes what radiocarbon dating can be used for and what it cannot be used for, and conclude from the description of what it cannot be used for invalidates radiocarbon dating. The reference said absolutely nothing negative about radiocarbon dating.

From that I can conclude one of two things:

  1. You have absolutely no understanding of radiocarbon dating methods and unknowingly misinterpret what is described, or
  2. You are deliberately misrepresenting the reference for what ever reason(s).
I really believe and do hope it is the first reason listed. That being the case, I would be happy to describe any of the three methods (GPC, LSC and AMS) of radiocarbon dating. :)

Anytime you start with an answer before asking the questions you don't have a scientific theory...

And yes, magic doesn't help us explain anything.
It would perhaps help a bit :D

Isa 47:12 "Keep on then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood.
Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror.

Rev 18:23 The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world's great men.
By your magic spell all the nations were led astray.

Hello, christianforums.

I'd like to know how old you think the earth, and the universe, is. Do you agree with the young earth hypothesis, or do you believe, as I do, that the earth is several billions of years old?

Sorry if there's a thread for this already. I did a search on the subject, but couldn't find an existing thread.

The earth is as old at it is. That is truth and cannot fail. :)

God is good or your "answer" is incorrect.
Even His Son Jesus agrees about God being good :thumbsup:

Matthew 19:17 And He said to him "why Me dost thou call good? no one [is] good except One--God;
but if thou dost will to enter into the life, keep the commands.'

Revelation 22:14 `Happy are those doing His commands that the authority shall be theirs unto the tree of the life,
and by the gates they may enter into the city;
