• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You say you want an evolution?

Constructive criticism is helpful. =) Unless we're perfect, we all need a little constructive criticism now and then. I know I do.

This is the debate forum, and when we criticize, it's usually about the information you have posted. That's how debates work.

We're not criticizing you, but the information you have put forth before us. If you would rather people just nod their heads and agree with you, perhaps the Christians only forums would be better suited for you.

It helps to develop a thick skin. Flames inevitably flare up now and then in a forum like this, just try not to take it personally.

Ah, thanks. Although I don't know why I would be equated to a torturous person.

You and I and many like us ARE torturous. Christians don't even have to say or do anything to torture others. Our presence alone is a constant irritant that begins to feel like chinese water torture, which is why so many people would love to see us just go away. It's something we inherited from the reason so many hated Jesus.

John 3
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

Yes, all us evil evolutionists are just salivating for the day the rapture comes and takes you all to Jesus.

The Christian persecution complex once again rears its head.

Hola Puppylove

Please don't get upset, this is the big, bad internet where it's all too easy to come across as sounding more harsh than you meant, and to misunderstand what someone is trying to say. Just remember that you have a right to say what you believe. If anyone attacks you for that they are shaming themselves, not you.

Rise above the petty squabbling and keep a cool head.

Stick around! ;)

Umm... Who's attacking who again? The fact of the matter remains that this is a forum where people of non-Christian background are welcome to post. We generally attack ridiculous pseudoscience, recognizing that the layman who honestly falls for it was merely unable to refute it and accepted it uncritically because it happened to confirm his own preconceived notions.

However, I will also say this: just when was the last time a Hindu or Muslim attempted to convert you with rather... stupid arguments and verses from their holy book(s), then had an incredulous look when you weren't impressed and brought up more Quran/Vedic verses? Or successfully got their deities and commandments inserted into official government business despite the Constitution? Or tried to knock down science in favor of pseudoscience?

When was the last time a Wiccan president said 'I dunno if atheists should be considered citizens'?

Christians comprise around 80% of the theists in this country, don't they? Therefore, the majority of the nuts like Bush, Ashcroft, Falwell, Robertson, Fred Phelps, Hovind, etc. will happen to be Christian. 80% of our rebuttals and arguments on religion will thus be with Christianity and the monotheistic, Abrahamic beliefs it derives from, and the other 20% will be split among other beliefs like reincarnation and polytheism.

I've found that people professing those views have learned to live and let live, however, so I rarely argue against them unless I find the one-in-a-million Buddhist fundamentalist :D

Most of us come here to get a better idea of just what it is that makes you people believe in things that to us seem as incredibly irrational as every other religion. Just as a few Christians post on the Internet Infidels and other secular forums, so to do we post here for improved mutual understanding between our two peoples. :p

A unfair generalization...not even half-way accurate anyway. You assume anyone that diagrees with your interpretation of science is a moron. Got arrogance?

Some of the statements like:

"Who ever said the earth was only 12000 years old? Its very clear from Gods word the the earth is much older then that.."

Are some what uneducated. I my self believe the earth is 8-15 thousand years old. However there are many different views of creation. If someone says the earth IS 12,000 years old they are making a universal statement which is nowhere near called for in a case like this. The Bible like many other things can be interpreted in many different ways. By going by the geneologies of the Bible and jewish records the earht is around 8-15 thousand years old.

To the Lacmeh,
The items you claim to be billions of years old are certainly not. The techunique used to prove this is usually carbon14 dating, which by my own science book published by the government biased to evolution, is only correct up to around 40-50 thousand years old. However even this is not coorect because again byyour science the earth has not reach equalibrium of carbon14. This is why even the figure above is incorrect. You can even research carbon14 to check behind me.

That is false. The most common method for dating the earth is the lead isochron age method, not carbon 14. I haven't seen any studies on the age of the earth using Carbon 14, because as you said, the accuracy is limited. I don't know how you got your information that C-14 was the method most used to date the Earth, but it is definitely not true.

"It is true that some dating methods (e.g., K-Ar and carbon-14) do not have a built-in check for contamination, and if there has been contamination these methods will produce a meaningless age. For this reason, the results of such dating methods are not treated with as much confidence."

Scientists use a half of dozen methods over many types of material to date the earth, and all of them agree to a remarkable extent. The one of the common methods is Rb-Sr dating. Sm-Nd, Lu-Hf, Re-Os and more have all been used in dating the earth, and all of them agree remarkably.

For a big table of all the different dating methods on different materials and their results, check below:

Where did you get the information that carbon dating is used to date the Earth's age?

I never said, that Carbon dating is used for determining earth age.
It would be pointless to want to prove earth age with an element, which a detoriation time of 5500 years...

The age determination methods are based on the fact, that the mass and stability of the ISOTOPES(same lement, only other nucleus). Some Isotopes detoriate because they are more instable than their normal counterparts. Therefore one is able to determine, how long something has been around. It is all measurable. With enough money you can easily build those machines yourself (Well with enough money to buy the lab branch of Hewlett Packard)
