Yes. Phil Keaggy is the first name that came to my mind when I saw your post. Keaggy was in a band in the late 60s/early 70s called Glass Harp as well, and their albums are still available on CD as far as I know. You may want to start with those if he likes band oriented things.
I dont think there is a person on this earth that can shred the guitar like Yngwie but still keep his feeling of vibratos, bends... You probably wont find a guitarist to please his ears if hes a Yngwie fan, but anyway his music is completely clean if you ask me, don t worry too much...
