I guess I took too long to say what I wanted to say, huh? Well, my answer to the question about 2 posts up, answers it too.

We're also self employed and work a lot of hours. I'm just the only one who thinks living in squalor is not an acceptable way to live. (and it doesn't bother me to keep a clean and orderly house without much help... except when I'm sick. )

I should make a pact with myself not to complain.

Depends on how much you complain...everybody is entitled to complain just a bit, it's those that abuse that right that need to make that pact with themselves.

I don't think I complain very much. But, negativity breeds discontent. And God's word says we're not to do it.

Disagree. (I was going to give examples. But, they're too horrific for public consumption. And I don't want to be accused of over dramatizing to garner sympathy)

You must be one of the younger grandchildren. Well, spend as much time talking to them as you can, they won't be around forever.

Happier is difficult to determine, since it's easy to look happy, without actually being happy. But, I'm as amiable as most people.

Have you ever come unglued on someone in public, either someone you work with or just a person not doing their job (to your standard) and is there to serve you in some way??

Working as a cashier at a grocery store, I certainly have plenty of opportunities . But about the only time I actually DID, the guy that was working as a bagger on my lane (bagged the purchase, put it in the cart) said during a lull, "Gee, I wish I could cashier, that's all you have to do!" I proceeded to point out that I was:

1. Primary customer contact: With many customers, the cashier is the first person they actually speak to in the store.
2. Responsible for guest complaints: Because of #1, if the guest has any questions or problems with their order, they expect me to know how to resolve it or how to answer their question.
3. I need to be accurate with finances: Even on a slow day, I will typically have to deal with upwards of $5,000 in transactions, and I need to be accurate within .10 cents. (I don't pay back any losses, but I could face termination for repeated inaccuracies.
4. Customer Service: If the guest needs assistance to their car, or needs something they forget, it is my responsibility to see that it is taken care of.
5. Assist in loss prevention: Not only do I need to be sure that my till is accurate, but I need to be sure that people aren't trying to take more than they're purchasing. This includes watching for things like bulges in clothing that might indicate merchandise stuffed inside, containers that seem heavier than they should be (tote tubs or trash cans can hold phenominal amounts) and have a means of contacting store security without tipping the thief off. --this one can be dangerous and we've been told the store would rather lose merchandise than endanger anyone.

I pointed all this out to my bagger, and then firmly (but quietly) told him, "So why don't you go to your post and be ready to bag, because that is all you have to do."

The cashier on the lane next to me turned and gave me a thumbs up .
